I can do easy ones..no problem but I am having a hard time figuring out the really hard ones. Is there a strategy that I'm missing out on or something?

I might want to add that Ive been playing on the computer, its timed and theres nowhere to write things out. If I put in a wrong number and start working the rest of the puzzle. its really hard to go back and figure out where i messed up...oh and for all of you calling me stupid..I'm working on level 10 puzzles (out of 10 levels) and they are no walk in the park.. so shut your mouths.!

It's hard to use advanced sudoku techniques unless you have the option to list all the possibilities in the box and then slowly eliminate them. If your software only lets you put one number in a box, it will be hard to solve the hard ones.

This web site lists the techniques most people use. Some people claim forcing chains can solve just about anything, but they can be hard to find. You should minimally master techiques 1-7 and then work on 8,9,10.

Try the process of elimination.

I usually start off by seeing where the number "1" can go and mark each square appropriately with a small "1" in the top left corner. I will continue that way for all numbers 1 through 9. Afterwards, you can sometimes see the only square that can possibly have a certain number in it and/or eliminate the others.

On the really hard ones, sometimes you even have to do trial and error. For example, if you know that two squares in the same row or the same box have to be either a three or a five but you can not narrow it down further, try a three in one and a five in the other and see if it works out. Instead of writing those numbers in, underline the number before proceeding. That way if you are wrong, you can go back easily and plug the other number in instead.

You may also look at different websites for tips, such as:

Good luck!

Yes
You need to start out at the very easy sudoku puzzles then work your self up to the very tough puzzles sorry to say just follow the patterns of the numbers for example if you see a nine vertically going up and down or horizontally across you can not put a nine in those rows same for any numbers 1 to 9

On really hard ones I've written out the number on a different peice of paper and crossed out the numbers that would not work. Graph paper works well.

There are strategies that you will pick up on the more you do them. Just pay a lot of attention to new ways of figuring out numbers.

If you have a printer, try to print them out before you do it so that way you can write the possible answers down if needed. WTG on doing the tough ones, I have TONS of books I haven't gotten up to the tough ones yet, but I don't like doing them on the computer.
