i'm writing a paper for the Jane Austen novel and my teacher wants me to find a quote from the book that i can use to write about the topic of women and marriage.

Hmmm... Here's one I found. It depends on what you're saying about women and marriage, though:
"...Elinor sat down to the card-table with the melancholy persuasion that Edward was not only without affection for the person who was to be his wife; but that he had not even the chance of being tolerably happy in marriage, which sincere affection on her side would have given, for self-interest alone could induce a woman to keep a man to an engagement, of which she seemed so thoroughly aware that he was weary." Most marriages at the time were for social, political or financial gain. For Mariane, it had to be for love. She believed that what she had with Willoughby was the real thing, that's why she couldn’t believe it when he left her for that heiress. She cant imagine him feeling the same way with the other girl when they were being so formal with each other.
