There is no country that lies between France and Spain, they have connecting borders. There is the Province of Andorra. It is not a country as of yet. It lies right on the border and is only a 180 sq feet which is 2 1/2 times the size of Washington DC.

Now Portugal is on the other side of Spain which leaves Spain in the middle between Portugal and France. On the other side of France there are five countries that share a part of the border. They are Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Luxemburg, and Italy. I have left you a link that will show you the map of Europe so you can see what I am talking about.

It is Andorra and it is an independent country alright. It is one of those really small states in Europe, like Vatican, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Monaco etc.

The Basque region is not a country. It is divided in a french province (the northern part) and a spaniard province (the southern part). Especially the Spaniards have problems with basque separatists, probably because they basque were not treated well by the spaniards.

Corsica is a french island in the mediterranean. And here again separatist movements cause much trouble to the french.

Switzerland is in the mountains, too, but it's in the alps. Andorra is in the Pyrennean.
