Does anyone know of any teams (all time) that were top 25 in either the AP Poll or the ESPN coaches poll after the conference tournament but was not invited to play in the NCAA?

My friend said that any ranked teams will make it regardless of their play in the conference tournament. I agree that this is true most of the time but pointed out that there is always the chance that a team won't get invited. He, being a giant, douche, told me he won't believe me unless i find proof.

yeah so far both answers are wrong. polls take into account a teams recent winning streaks. plenty of midmajors can win 8-10 in a row with a weak schedule then have it snapped in the conf. tourny. This can and should cost them a spot in the NCAA

I do not know the teams but it is in the league Pepperdine is in I believe and it happened there. They ended their tournament at the time they started announcing the brackets and the rated team lost and they only took the champion from that league. if somebody has the details, please answer this question with those details. I would be interested in seeing the details or if I am wrong. thanks

Since the tournament field was expanded to 64 (now 65 teams) no ranked team in either poll has been left out. Back when only conference champions got in, then you had some great teams not making it, but since they added at large bids, nobody has missed out. Although, if a team is on probation or something like that, then they could be barred from entering the tournament.

Too the guy below me, you are wrong. The are in the WCC and that was the year they beat Gonzaga and the Zags still made the tourny or at least that is the last time they won the WCC.

It may have happened when they only took conference champions (32 teams) but never since they have expanded the field.

If a team is ranked in the TOP 25 they will and always have made the NCAA tournament. The tournament takes the TOP 64 (65 with a playoff for the last spot). All the fuss and commotion comes from those last 40 spots. The 25 is in...they use the same factors.

Sorry...The douche got one.

you are wrong unless you go back to the 1940s...back then there were fewer teams invited and also in the minds of a lot of folks the NIT was the premier postseason tournament of the day

EDIT: no you are definitely wrong, mid-majors who just go on random winning streaks don't get ranked unless they have already put together a good season, and even then it's no lock...case in point, winthrop has ended the season on an 18-game win streak and are 28-4 overall...are they ranked? no
