Should I Study Fashion Business At Uni For 4years Then Go For A Buyer Job? Or Leave School At 18 And Start As A Shop Assistant?

Most retailers today require a Buyer to have a 4 year degree. I would encourage you to get a 4-year degree, whether in Fashion Merchandising and/or in Business. Being a Buyer today is not just about picking out pretty clothes or cool furniture. You are required to run a business and understand the financial responsibilities of your position.

Good Luck!

Its always best to go for the education first, but if you can't afford the price of attending university for 4 years, retailers tend to promote from within. I worked for a large retailer in the states- and many of the buyers i knew started out selling merchandise or stocking shoes.
It really depends on your fashion sense, product knowlegde, and ability to manage and deal with people.
Again- if you can go to Uni- do it, but if you can't there are other options.
