Actually it has - it talks to me and moves across the floor when no one is around but me. It's lid opens and shuts and it starts to look evil. I tried to unplug it but it still does the same thing.

My washer has a "Cycle Signal" switch which you can turn off or on...you might check to see if yours has one.
On = loud, obnoxious noise when wash cycle is complete.
Off = no running around the house with a flower vase.

No, but I have an air compressor that comes on about once every 24 hours or so for a few minutes at a time, and that has startled me a few times, not quite to the point of fight or flight, but ...
