Well, the black parade is a metaphorical term. It is the afterlife of anyone who's made a difference to the world, or at least anyone's life. It is the "march" of souls in the after life, telling when you are dead, you are not gone. The song has alot of metaphore in it, and as you coukld see in the video , the man was dying, and the pioint is he was a good person, and was kind to others, which is why they (dead people) were letting him join "the black parade."

Personally I think the music expresses funerals, death and fear of the people, so they join the black parade where they are accepted.
Don't like the song that much... I don't think the lyrics or music video is clear at all, just causes a lot of confusion.

I have a 13 year old who loves this song and from what I gathered it's a song about a guyand at the beginning his dad is telling him that someday he's going to die and join the black parade (this would be the people who have gone before him). Anyway, something about the guy carrying on for his dad, blah blah blah - i can only understand so much of the 13 year old language......

okay well the black parade is actually a parade gerard and mikey way went with their father 2. and their dad was very abusive, and it took place near the war. so its kinda like, them getting out into the world seeing everything and they mixed things from their life and in the war into the music vidio and a little into the song

Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics
When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up,
would you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?"
He said "Will you defeat them,
your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made?"
Because one day I'll leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."
When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said, "Son when you grow up,
would you be the saviour of the broken, the beaten, and the damned?"
He said "Will you defeat them,
Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
When through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
And when you're gone we want you all to know.
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone, believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it.
A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all.
So paint it black and take it back
Lets shout it loud and clear
do you fight it to the end
We hear the call
To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
we'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
On and on we carry through the fears
Ooh oh ohhhh
Disappointed faces of your peers
Ooh oh ohhhh
Take a look at me, cause I could not care at all
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world, will never take my heart
You can try, you'll never break me
Want it all, we wanna play this part
Won't explain, or say I'm sorry
I'm not ashamed, I'm gonna show my scar
Give a chair, for all the broken
Listen here, because it's to me
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I'm just a boy, who wanna to sing this song
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I -- don't -- care
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
You'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
(Do or die, you'll never make me)
(Because the world, will never take my heart)
(You can try, you'll never break me)
(We want it all)
We'll carry on
(We wanna play this part)
(Do or die)
We'll carry on
(You'll never make me)
(Because the world)
We'll carry on
(Will never take my heart)
(You can try)
We'll carry
(You'll never break me)
(We want it all)
We'll carry on
(We wanna play this part)
I think its just simply about life and death, and what you do with it till its over. Maybe telling the son he hopes his passing wont led to the death of his son from broken heart. I could be wrong but thats what I got out of the lyrics, sometimes only the writter of the song can really say what a song is about.

It's about a patient dying in a hospital, and his most precious memory is when his father took him to a parade. Then, when he dies, the death comes to him in the form of a black parade. Death coming to you however you want it to is a meaning of the song. And the black parade is a representation of death happening through his most precious memory.

The song and music video are basically about a man who is about to die of cancer, and he remembers when his father took him to the Black parade as a young child.
Here's a website where you can find out all about the song--
