My DH and I are currently separated and I'm getting ready to move 120 miles away. The thing is we really need a break to sort things out and work on our own issues in order for things to work.

Do separations ever work out for the best and couples get back together and have stronger marriages?

It does in some cases. It is the same as being together in the sense that both parties have to want to work out the issues and both parties have to work hard at the problems in the relationship. Communication can be difficult over miles. However, email can give both parties a chance to think about what they want to say and communicate clearly without the problem of impulsively saying things that may damage the relationship. It also gives you both space and time to work on your own issues. If you both want it to work, you have a good chance of doing so. I wish the best for you.

Yes, if it is meant to be. I know a couple who separated for a bout 6 months and talked a lot while they were separated. They were able to be more direct and not worry so much about what they were saying because they were not living together anymore. They got back together and have since had 2 beautiful children. Their marriage is stronger because they took the time they needed to sort things out.

I have been separated for almost 3 years! Have to say in my own opinion that it doesn't work that well! After the first year I was to afraid to try thinking that it may all end up separated again so why put yourself out there to get hurt again!Think it depends on the person and if you are able to keep focused on the matter at hand or will everyday life take over your thoughts and your marriage will be put on the back burner!

My wife and I seperated for about a month back in 2005, it was really hard for both of us, but it really helped us alot, because it helped open our eyes to realize that we both had problems we needed to work on, and after we got back together, we started seeing a pastor from our church for marriage counceling and it's really helped us both alot. We are alot closer now, and we were able to resolve the issues that caused us to seperate in the first place.

I'd like to say that seperations always work out for the best, but sadly they don't.

I've been separated 2 and a half years, not working out for me. I have lost interest in going back. Every situation is different.

Who actually initiated the seperation idea? I just got seperated a week and a half ago and it is killing me. She has completely blocked me out and there is no communication. I personally think it is the worst thing we could do but it is how she wants it so I have to live with it. I wish you luck...and me too.

i dont know it depends, my husband and i have talked about seperation and honestly i dont know if i want that or if im just ready for divorce. i think it really depends on how much love was there in the first place and whether or not there is enough left to build something out of the ashes, good luck.

Everyone I know that have tried trial or temporary separations have ended in divorce. Sorry. Absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder unless you are both passionately in love with each other.
