Leaky faucette. No problem, right? Wrong. I removed the screw that holds the knob onto the stem and I think it should let go but instead all of my efforts to pull it off with extreme force just make the whole pipe move. There's blue crub from minerals in the water all over the place. How can I loosen the knob so it slides off?

Based on your spelling, I'm guessing you're located outside of the US. So, I don't know if this product is available where you are: Naval Jelly. It's a gel that you spread on the joint. It works its way inside, dissolving the rust. Should do the trick (always does for me).

If this isn't available, a spray lubricant (we have a product called WD40) also will work well. This method has also never failed me.

As long as the knob is metal, heat stem with a torch , and tap the side of the knob while pulling up. If its not metal simply break off a buy a set of new knobs...Keep in mind that whichever the case. when you DO get it off you'll probably have a harder time getting the stem out, really better off replacing the whole faucette!

Home improvement and hardware stores sell a gadget that will do it. It is made of a metal bar, bent in a square U shape, with the ends bent in again. A screw goes down through the middle. The bar hooks behind the handle and the screw pushes down on the valve shaft. Fairly cheap, and effective.

that is in all probability a slot screw. The valve stem may be thoroughly bumped off in maximum faucets considering the fact that that's what you'll be able to desire to do to swap the washing gadget(s) in them. That area which would be bumped off is often spoke of because of the fact the cartridge, and in case you will detect an analogous make and variety of cartridge on your interior sight domicile protection shop, it particularly is replaced with no need to swap the entire faucet assembly. yet once you're making plans on a diverse faucet besides, then why no longer replace the entire difficulty? often while a faucet is as a great way long gone as you describe yours, that is in all probability approximately time.
