Assuming that you've put water in the iron (- incidentally I use vaporesse by comfort - it's lovely and is better for the iron than tap water), there should be a knob towards the top of the iron that has a little pictures on it. You need to turn the knob so that the picture of a puff of steam is lined up with a small line that ther'ell be on the iron. Most steam irons are dry irons too so you need to tell the iron which setting you want it on - ie steam - hence the picture of steam. You also need to be aware that even if you have selected the steam function the iron will only steam if you have the heat turned up to a higher setting - this is normally setting number 3 or 4 but be careful not to burn your clothes of course. It may be that you have hard water in your area and if you have been using tap water and then letting it stand in your iron whilst not in use it could have blocked your iron up. In this event I would get a new one. I've got a tefal superglide 20. cost about £30 i think and is really good. Hope this helps

Got one last year and I love it. Bed spreads are a gift now. The only complaint I have is that the Breville steam generator iron needs the cartridge replaced every now and then and you have to mail order it. It depends on how hard the water is in your area as to how often you need to replace it and unfortunately I live in an area with very hard water. Adds to the cost of the Iron which is expensive enough. Love them but would check out if it needs a water cartridge the next time I buy one.

Love it!! Mine also has attachments for cleaning around the house, but it takes a lot of distilled water for that. Still the option is there. I have found that there is so much steam that I get a puddle under the ironing board. So a towel underneath is necessary. No big deal.
Make sure the iron itsself is well made and weighted on the bottom, you still need the weight, or I do.

Ive got a Morphy Richards. Steam Generator Iron, And i can say they are the best. I found that Morphy Richards customer service very good. As i do a lot of ironing (Lots of fashion conscious kids) when mine broke down i called them and they sent a brand new iron to me within 4 days, at no cost. Ironing has never been easier.

Have been using them for 10 years! I use the Tefal brand, and yes they are quite expensive, but save so much time and make your ironing so much easier. Unfortunately given their cost, they only come with a 12 months guarantee and sometimes they dont last too long, which is a problem. I used to be able to get it repaired if it broke by a local repair shop, but Tefal have now stopped anyone from doing that, and so you have to either send it back (costs a fortune) or buy a new one. Have tried other makes because of this, but have gone back to Tefal who are by far the best! Invest in one, I doubt you'll regret it, especially if you have lots of ironing.

Excellant. I have had 3 over the years and wouldn't use anything else now. You do have to buy the distilled water for them though as it's impossible to descale them. Also you only have to iron one side of garments as the steam pressure is so good. Brilliant on sheets and big items.

Yes, we've got one, and wouldn't be without it now. We still have the normal type one aswell, in case of emergencies when you don't want to fill up the other just for ironing one article as it takes a long time to reach temperature.
Invest in one, you won't be sorry, but shop around as the price varies a great deal and basically they are all the same.
