I like it. I don't think the stigma that went along with it many years ago exists today. Damien is a nice name and so is Damon. Do whatever you like, it doesn't really matter what other people think of your child's name.
Best of luck to you

I really like the name Damien! If you are really uncomfortable with the name because of the move The Omen, then yes I think Damon is a great variation.

There are a couple of things that immediately spring to mind...Yes, the Omen...but also for me, there was an old British comedy (like Young Ones but not it) where they called the Catholic school boys "spotty little Damiens" as an insult.
You will find that just about every name has a rhyme, insult, celebrity or friend that colours people's perception.
My boys are Max (hey, that's my dog's name!) and Oliver (Please sir, can I have...more?). So don't be discouraged. Pick the name that you both like and the bub grows into the name pretty quickly.
Good luck!

I like the name Damien. Better than Damon. The movie is fiction. It means nothing except that weak minded people will think it may have any kind of real life power.

Before I read the whole question, I was thinking about suggesting Damon. I think that's a very pretty name!
Some wise cracker will probably make the Damon-Demon connection at some point. If you're ok to deal with that, go ahead.

I named my son Damien Alexander. He was born in 2005 and I picked the name without ever seeing the movie "The Omen". It means "One who tames; subdues". I love it. I think it is a great choice. And that was just a movie. If people wanna give you crap then they should also be warry of names like "Jason" or "Freddie". LOL

Well, you weary feeling hasn't gone without purpose. The name without reference to it usage sounds like a good name. But like your already aware, the boy will hear the jokes about the movie quite often. If you name hime this or anything else familiar in society, be prepared to hear the jokes, cheer him up when the name bothers hime, and explain to him that it isn't the movie that inspired the name. My best suggestion is to come up with a less provactive name.

Damien, may reming someone of the devil. But it's what you feel that counts. If you like it, stick with it. You never know, it might change when he's born. Just look at your baby when you hold him for the first time...you will know. That's how my oldest was named. I waited until he was born. But don't pay attention to the Omen. If you aren't evil. Neither will your baby.
