Lunch is the only time when we have our freedom to relax. That's what I believe. What do you guys think? Would it be fair or unfair for your school board to do something like that? How would you feel and where would you stand? Pro or con. :] Thanks so much for taking your time to read this and I do enjoy reading your responses.

It would def be a con. You need a lil break during the day to just relax and chill with friends. Plus what if you forget your lunch? What happened to hot meals? Sheesh!

Con, unless there are things going on in the cafeteria at lunch that could be harmful to large crowds(Have no idea what). Everyone needs a break from the classroom, even if its only 30 minutes. I don't like that idea at all. The school board can pretty much do what they want. I suggest getting a petition going, get as many people to sign it as you can, and try and get parents involved. If you have enough people stand up for the cafeteria, the school board might reconsider.

The Pros- You dont have to buy your lunch, you can bring your lunch from home and still sit and talk with your friends. Con- some of your friends might not be in you homeroom. Unfortunatly sometimes it is hard for school boards to make these kind of decisions. With todays problems with money though would you rather have lunchroom closed, or classes such as shop, gym, art, drama, and sports cut?

When I was in high school, the cafeteria wasn't finished yet,
because the whole school was brand new. Everybody had to eat
lunches in homeroom, and it was that way for the whole year. It
wasn't a problem, though, because after you finished eating, you
could walk the halls, go outside, or almost anything until the bell
rang for your next class. There wasn't anything to get upset at or
angry about. So, just take it in stride.

It depends on why they are closing the lunch room. Was it because people were acting like fools? If that is the case, well, you have to pay for others mistakes. If it is because of some other reason, I say, give it a chance. Maybe you can still relax and talk with friends.
I would not find it fair though.

con. i agree with you!!! it's the childs time to interact with other children, which is very healthy. i see no reason to make kids eat in their homerooms. they are children, not monkeys! and even monkeys like palying and eating with other monkeys! i have very fond memories of eating in the cafateria! if i was a student, i would refuse to comply. i would write letters and protest and get students and parents to join me and support me. and as a parent, if my daughters school announced this decision, i would protest as a mother. i would demand to know the reasons for such a decision. and i would get other parents to work with me in protest. i would interview the children and document their feelings. i'm sure very few kids would be ok with this decision, even the not so popular interverted children. it's almost as stupid as taking recess away, which i have read in the newspaper that some schools have done this already! and they wonder why kids in america are obese! some schools have stopped allowing kids to yell or run during recess, others have banned recess altogether. too many lawsuits they claim. ok, so have all the parents sign a disclaimer or something, geeze!!! *sigh*

Seeing as I am a lioness, it would be a pro, all those teenagers locked up with nowhere to run...the hunt wouldn't be so difficult and the belly would end up full.
If I was a human I would ABSOLUTELY be against it. Students need time to move around the place and feel free of their duties at least for a little while.

I usually just take a Sunkist to lunch and drink that, but lunch is the only time I can be with all my older friends. Seeing how I don't have homeroom with any of them. ;[ So I guess I would be against that. Our lunchroom is called a lounge though. Kinda dumb. x]

CON.

I think it's unfair to take away socialization that occurs during lunch period.

And, technically, I think the school is required to solve this problem... If it's a public school, you can't lock students in homerooms to eat.

Why are they closing the cafeteria anyway?

Probably from people acting a fool in the cafeteria. If you weren't part of the solution you were part of the problem. If I were your homeroom teacher I would be mad...they need a break more than you do. In fact if I were your homeroom teacher I would be contacting my union rep, that would be against our bylaws. Put that bug in your teachers ear and see if it goes.
