I'm taking a poll of what people everywhere think some of the major flaws of today's society are. I also want people, who have serious ideas/answers, to lend some eye-opening knowedge to the mass population, as to further spread the ripples of a better life for all. What realistic steps can we take to better the way life is lived?

The strive for independence and individuality is really hurting our world. This causes people to be competitive and to be greedy. By trying to achieve these goals, people really suffer...not just their own suffering, but it causes other to suffer too. I think we need to go back to many of the old school values which brings a sense of community back to our neighborhoods. Yes it may feel like grandma'ish to many young people, but I believe it is the only way to make things healthier for all people. Through this idea, change is going to happen on a global level, but only through each person doing his or her best on a local level. It begins with caring about those close to you. It begins with getting out of the house and doing for a neighbor instead of sitting in front of a television, videogame, or computer. It is positive interactions with others who are near to us physically. That is how change could occur to make it better.

Family Family Family

Your family should be everything. If people could fall back on their families, if everybody could say, "No matter what falls apart, I'll have a place in my family," then people would be able to mellow out a little. The world's problems wouldn't seem so overwhelming, and people would stand back and solve them with clear heads, thinking, "All right, the people on the other side of this issue are just people to. People with families." If everybody's main concern was taking care of their families, we'd have no reason to doubt the honesty of other people's intentions.

I believe a step in the right direction would be to find answers to the following questions...
They are questions we need to ask of our society in an effort to rectify the dumbing down of the human race...

Why do we worship movie stars and TV stars and sports stars while scientists and philosophers and educators remain anonymous?

Why do our teachers get paid so little while insignificant, self-centred entertainers receive millions?

Why do the masses gorge themselves on idiotic shows like Big Brother, Wrestlemania and brainless prime-time dramas when there is so much important and relevant information in the media that gets overlooked and delegated to the fringes?

I think that the lack of time spent with our loved ones is the crux of the societal problems we have today .Examples would be children without manners, stability, or ethics, drug users, elderly people with no one to love them, single parents with no emotional support for their families. Each of those problems could be alleviated by some loving, caring person spending time with the ones affected.
And the family solution would be simple: spend more time with your loved ones. Simple, but not easy, mainly because of the time demands we all face. I'd just love to see people start thinking about time and its use, as a place to start.
Great question.
Good luck.

The Western civilization still think they can police the world and tell people how to run their country. It frequently leads to meaningless wars that destroy civilizations and create countless enemies.

Stop looking for what is wrong with the world and start looking for all that is right and you'll find the world is a beautiful place. Those who seek negativity will have no problem finding it and vise verse.
