Yes, it was painful. I was in Africa at the time for aiding orphaned children. We were outside one of the orphanages when a child screamed. I saw a cobra and dialed my coworker for help (I knew nothing about snakes at the time). I had to force all of the children to stay inside. My friend finally arrived with help, so I walked outside to meet him. When I walked outside, the cobra, afraid of the car, defensively bit me. It was the worst pain imaginable. I had to be rushed to the hospital and luckily some of the people in the car were snake experts, so they helped me one the way. I can't recall much of the drive there, but I felt like I was in a feverish dream. I had to stay in the hospital for an entire week. I have a scar on my ankle still.
How about you?

I was bit by a rattlesnake once. I was was in AZ out in the desert partying with friends, we were standing around a fire we had built, I reached down to throw more wood on the fire, and BAM I was bitten, I pulled up quickly on my hand and that little b*stard still had a brief hold of me, apparently his fang was stuck under my skin, he got away but not before we were able to identify him. My friend Johnny raced me to the E.R., on the way there everything felt funny, my ears echoed, and things in front of me appeared farther away than they actually were. My Step-Dad was the E.R. Physician, they put a pump on my bite wound to extract the venom, my hand was swollen and the bite wound turned black. I never received the anti-venom he said I didn't need it, that my reaction to it wasn't life threatening. His fang broke off into my hand, and it still remains there as of today. On family get togethers I am always the freak show, everyone wants me to hold a flash light up to my hand so they can see the outline of the fang that is embedded in my tendon.
Hows that for a snake bite story?
By the way hours later I was back out in the desert partying with friends not even a venomous snake could stop me from enjoying an ice cold beer.

No, but my Dad has.
When he was about 12, he got bit in the hand by a rattlesnake, so they rushed him to the hospital. The whole way there, his mother thought he would die. This was in 1954, so snakebites were a bigger deal back then than they are now. After they got to the hospital, they discovered that it wasn't a rattlesnake after all, but some other breed of snake that's a look-a-like.
