What kind of dog should I get? live in the city?

Hey, I live in Philadelphia and am a college student. I wanted a small dog for my apart. but have never had a pet before. I need a small dog who isn't much of a hassle...also, by lookin at my situation, what could be better? getting a dog, or a cat?"

depends how much you are home. If you tend to be gone most of the day with classes and work (look at the future as well), you should probably get a cat. If you know that you are going to be home for most of the time (only away 8 hrs or so at the most) then a dog would be ok. If a dog gets bored, they tend to do more damaging things to the apartment, which your landlord would not like. As for breeds- do not get a hyper one. I would just go to the humane society and look for a older puppy/young adult that has worked out most of the puppy kinks and has a calmer attitude. An older dog is usually more ok with being left home alone as well.

I am a Dog person, but you need to go to the animal shelter and get a cat. You live in an apartment in the city and have a busy schedule that would not be compatible to owning a Dog. Cats can be left alone for long periods as they go in a litter box and do not need the amount of attention a dog requires. Cats amuse themselves and pretty much are self sufficient as long as you keep food and water available. Do some research on the shelters in your area and visit some of them. Your pet will find you.

Mini poodles are sweet if you train them to be! I would get one from a shelter... They are much more sweeter that way, plus it will give you a really good feeling knowing that you are helping him/her out! any way thats what I would do if I were you but, I am not am I?
