Steve Nash is waaay OVERRATED! Without Marion he sucks & his stats are average.

Nash without Marion:
2003, 17.7 ppg--7.3 apg--46.5 fg%
2004, 14.5 ppg--8.8 apg--47.0 fg%
NOW, 19.1 ppg--11.7 apg--53.3 fg%
See my point, his numbers are average without Marion. His points shot up, his ASSIST SHOT UP, & his fg% shot up. If it wasn't for Marion's ability to score, Nash's assist would be like it was in Dallas, and if it wasn't for Marion & Amare drawing double teams, Nash would average less points & his fg% would be down. Them guys drawing double teams opens Nash up for shots. Nash never averaged a double double in his entire career until he played with Marion. So that means Marion makes Nash better.........and saying what was The Suns without Nash isn't a legit point. Because we haven't seen Nash play without Marion for a entire season. If he plays witout Marion and still do good, then that'll be a legit point. Nash to the Suns is what Rasheed is to the Pistons. Just A KEY player.

What made the Pistons a championship team was when Rasheed joined them..but that doesn't mean Rasheed is the best player on the team either. It just mean that they were missing a good PF......and you could say the same about Nash. Nash doesn't make his teammates better, he just makes the Suns a better team by being a point guard that they were missing.

J ***,
FYI, you're wrong on what you're saying about Marion. Marion without Nash is the same player. In 2001 Marion's fg% was 48.0 but in 2005 with Nash his fg% was 47.6. So no, he Marion didn't suck without Nash. As you see, with or without Nash, Marion's stats goes up & down....and Nash averaged 21 ppg, averaged a double double(2001), played in the playoff(2003) & was an all-star(2003) without Nash. So you're point isn't legit! J-***!

The paragraph above, I meant MARION averaged 21 ppg, averaged a double double(2001), & etc. You get the point.

I agree with you completely!

Nash is good because he's got teammates that can score!

He didn't deserve any of the MVP or anything, he's nothing but a good player.

That's way Dallas is not having any effect after he left.

What's points and FG% have to do with teammates? Sure his APG went up, but it doesn't matter who he plays with if he can shoot or not. Now that he has more experience and skill, he has mastered his shot, which increases his FG%, and the fact that he has a better FG% increases the chance that he'll make the shot, raising his PPG. OTHERS have nothing to do with if you can shoot or not. "STEVE NASH sucks WITHOUT SHAWN MARION" is definitely an inaccurate statement. Also, without Nash, wouldn't Marion suck? In 2003, he had 44 FG% and 19 PPG, but in 2005, Marion he had 52.5 FG% and 21.8 PPG. Doesn't that make Nash look better? That's how you would think. You could insert anyone's name into "*Player's name* makes *teammate* better/worse."

Those "stats" "w/out Marion" are still some pretty damn good stats. Those are not average numbers by any means. What other player is averaging nearly 20 points and 12 assists a game? If this is only average, there should be plenty. But I bet you can't name any.

Steve Nash isn't anywhere close to the best player in the NBA. However, he is the engine to the Phoenix Suns machine. He is doing better in Phoenix than Dallas not because his teammates are better (Dallas' current record can attest Steve's Maverick teammates were and ar pretty good) but because he thrives in the Suns UPtempo offense.

Another poster pointed this out, without Nash the Suns as a team are merely average. With Nash they are elite. Nash changes that team to a Championship Contender, that's what makes him so valuable and the reigning two-time MVP. His game makes the Suns contenders without him, the Suns aren't even in the playoffs.

That's why he keeps getting the nod over Dirk. I think the Mavs without Dirk are still playoff contenders. However, with Dirk, the Mavs aren't just Championship Contenders they are favorites. However, the same argument can be made for Kobe. Without Kobe, the Lakers are bottom feeders, with Kobe they are Playoff Contenders. Wade, Redd, Garnett, Pierce, McGrady, Paul, Anthony, James, and a host of other NBA players fit that description of changing their team from laughable to contender and from contender to championship material.

We are all just shocked that someone like Nash can get the recognition over a Kobe, or Lebron, or Wade. Like the poster mentioned, Rasheed Wallace helped changed the Pistons from Contenders to Champions. However, without Rasheed the Pistons are still Contenders. Nash helps the Suns go from nobody's to Championship material.

By the way, Nash isn't overrated, he wasn't even voted a starter for the All Star game was he? Nobody expects Nash to score 30 every night. Nobody expects Nash to take the last shot, or defend the opponent's best player. Nash is only expected to lead his team to victory, and he's done that many many times this season.

MVP isn't Most "Best" Player...it's Most VALUABLE Player. And that is Steve.

bk2az:
You're thinking is screwed up. Without Dirk the Mavs are not a Number 1 Seed. Think of Dirk hurt...now name 8 teams who can get ahead of Dallas.

I'll start you off...

Phoenix, San Antonio, Utah, now give me 5 more.

They may be an 7th or 8th seed, but they would still be playoff bound. And Dallas did not run the same uptempo offense Phoenix does. Yes Dallas ran, but Dallas wanted to run the offense through Dirk, and Dirk is no Marion and he is no Stoudemaire. Dirk likes the half court set. In Phoenix, Steve can push and dish and his guys are down the floor right with him. No one to slow it down.

I'm not dissing Dallas at all...obviously, I'm saying they are a great team. I'm not dissing Dirk either, I just think Dirk is not as Valuable to Dallas as Steve is to Phoenix. You can't prove otherwise. Look at the record. 29-53 before Nash, 62-20 the very next year with Nash.

Do you know what Marion AND Stoudamire are without Nash???
A 2-3 record including a loss, at home, to the Atlanta Hawks-one of the worst teams in the league. So who's the more key player???

ok i'm going to make this quick....Nash is still good without Marion. i think they just have incredible chemistry. however, Nash being the same player, couldn't get Dallas over the hump...but he has far better chemistry with the players in Phoenix. don't get it twisted...you can have all the talent in the world, and still not win a title. it has nothing to do with him thriving in the uptempo offense. the Mavs have played that same type of ball for years. next ....let me make this clear. Dallas is not playoff bound without Dirk Nowitski. NO NO NO NO NO! please tell me who in the crap can lead the Mavs to a playoff seed in the WEST without Dirk? dude you are trippin. I'm so tired of hearing about Nash. He's good, but he ain't the best, and he certainly is not the MVP. not last year, and not this year. somebody better step back and recognize what level Dallas is playing on this year.

I agree because when Steve Nash was in Dallas he was considered a average point guard and a poor defender. All of a sudden he comes to Pheonix and he's the one of the best players in the nba. I definitely think he's overrated

You better hope Steve Nash doesn't read this or he will throw a no-look pass from his home in Canada and behead you.
