I love both sports above all else, but if I had to choose I'd say soccer. It's probably just because soccer is a true global sport and it's great to see a bunch of countries some may never have heard of compete in the World Cup. The World Cup is by far the greatest sporting event. However, in terms of pure entertainment to watch on a daily basis I'd say hockey. It's fast, furious, hard-hitting, and constantly engaging. Soccer isn't so much on a daily basis, but as I said, I love both sports and I'd choose either any day over the NBA.

I'm so glad that for fans like me there is indoor soccer, heh.

Soccer would SEEM to be the same "type" of game (it has much the same objective anyway) but I just haven't been able to get into it. It's too slow, too hard to score, the field is too big, and what really bothers me the most is the penalty kicks.

Imagine a hockey "shootout" (which in itself I'm not sure if I'm crazy about) where the shooter has a wide open net to shoot at from 3 feet away, and the Goalie starts OUTSIDE the crease and may try to get in the crease and save the puck AFTER the shooter shoots.

Well that would make absolutely no sense (I know, I know, some of you think Bettman is probably thinking that one up now), and it doesn't in soccer.

It's personal preference. Hockey is fast paced and a lot of contact. Soccer is technical and easier to follow the action. Hockey requires more equipment to play. Soccer requires only a ball.

I have been played both sports for a long time (over 10 years each), and can honestly say that hockey is the better sport. While I like soccer for it's skill, finesse, and strategy, hockey is played at such an incredible pace and with such force, that it makes the game very exciting, even to the most casual fan. And soccer is hard to watch for 90 minutes on television.

And don't get me started on baseball...that's even more boring to watch on tv than soccer.

Hockey, but once every four years I like soccer better during the World Cup. Then its exciting watching all the fans from all the countries. Two billion people can't be wrong.

Hockey by far. It's fun to play, watch, and learn from. Soccer is fun when I play but even then...

Unfortunately hockey can be pretty expensive so that's probably it's biggest knock on the sport, not to mention the lack of rinks (whether it's ice or tiled) around the cities.

hockey IS soccer. only with more speed, more padding and a WEAPON. hockey is more fun to play and to watch, but either sport requires a lot of coordination, balance, and skill. screw anyone that calls soccer a girl's sport. and let them come play with me for an afternoon. i'll change their mind for them.
indoor soccer is a better comparison to hockey, bu the way. but i still maintain that the sports are very similar.
