Simple answer: Carbon-based fuels. For millions of years, those rotting dinosaur bones sat in the ground, where the carbon was trapped. Once we began taking it out of the ground and burning it, we started giving off all that carbon dioxide.

It is no coincidence that the rise in global temperatures tracks almost precisely with the industrial revolution and the rise of automobiles, airplanes and the space age. The more fuel that is burned, the more carbon dioxide is released.
