The easy way would be to just use an inline fuse, I think.
It's the kind that gets spliced into somewhere along the wire itself.
If this is automotive 12v, most auto parts stores should carry this.
If it's household 110v, I'm pretty sure Home Depot or Lowe's would have something that could be used along these lines.

There seems to be some confusion here.
I assume you have a fixed 230 volt supply to your caravan which is protected by a 30mA rcd and a 16Amp mcb.
This comes under regulations for caravans and caravan sites.
It does not fall under Part "P" of the building regulations.
if you need an extra fuseway or mcb then you can change the consumer unit ( fusebox or mcb panel ).
Remember that the caravan supplies are only rated at 16Amps and when your washer is running you may want to use the kettle or heater this will trip the incoming supply.
I can only advise you to get an electrician to wire this for you.
You are also liable for all the internal wiring of the caravan and this should be tested on a regular basis.
I have never seen a test certificate for a caravan in my entire career so it just shows you nobody worries.
Good Luck

of course you have a part P qualification for residential wiring don't you?
i would suggest that if your asking how to do it in yahoo answers you don't really have the knowledge to do it safely, especially in a van of mostly metallic construction.
get an electrician.

if you do decide to do it yourself get a RCD breaker consumer unit (the ones they sell in wickes for outbuildings) put it next to our existing fuse box, take a wire from it outside to wherever your going, use armoured cable, twin and earth. make sure the metallic armour is earthed as well as the earth lead.

make sure you use cable that is heavy enough for the job, 2.5mm2 is usually sufficient for a single or double spur, i would recommend heavier if you plan to say have a washing machine and and tumble drier and other things running on it at the same time.

good luck. don't fry yourself doing it!!

Ordinarily it's difficult to do, and I wouldn't try. I would use an inline fuseholder, connected either directly to the battery or to some point that is so connected. From the fuseholder, you can wire to a switch on the dashboard or elsewhere, and from there to the device you wish to use. You can get such a fuseholder at any auto parts store for very little money.

i'm specific there is not any place in North usa the place you ought to do it legally with out pulling a enable and getting an quite final inspection by ability of a development inspector. in spite of if, if your substantial breaker is separate out of your fusebox AND your jurisdiction facilitates the owner of the valuables (single kinfolk place of abode merely) to do their own electric powered enhancements then you definately ought to in all risk do it legally - yet secure practices is yet another tale. in case you have in no way carried out electric powered in the previous you would be incredibly silly to start up with a substantial activity like this. additionally, your new breaker panel can not exceed the amperage of your fusebox. in case you attempt to function circuits and choose for to extend from an old 60amp device to a a hundred/200/3 hundred amp device you ought to replace the wiring to the line pole. for sure that area of this is something that merely a qualified electrician can do.maximum circumstances once you're making a mistake you get a 2d risk. With electrical energy, you do no longer.

You have a caravan and you wantto wire up a washer to it??
I dunno about a washer, but for car accessories it is easiest to just wire a fuse in line with the accessory instead of going through the box.
