Okay, the two previous answers are wrong! The Titanic hit an iceberg (idiot) and the Russians fought against the Germans in World War One till the country collapsed -- they never even had submarines at that time.
There are several key reasons, but one of the principle factors was that German had began resorting to unrestricted submarine warfare again. This lead to the sinking in 1916 of the Lusitania by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland killing 1,120 people -- almost all of them non-combatants.
U.S. public opinion quickly swung against the Germans even further (there was growing resentment of them already because of strengthening economic ties to Great Britain). This aided President Wilson in his efforts to move America away from isolationism and take a greater role in global politics.
The final straw was an incident called "The Zimmerman Affair" in which captured secret documents showed the Germans had been engaged in trying to push Mexico in to attacking the U.S. Even going as far to offer fiscal support; munitions; and military advisers.
This effort was discovered in January of 1917, and by that April war was declared.
I have three links below that go into much greater detail if you need. Hope this helps. --Andy

Many things got American involved in World War I.
At the start of the war in 1914, Americans (under president Wilson) wanted to stay neutral. We supplied both sides, and made a large profit off of it.
German began their policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, sinking the Lusitania (English passenger ship - 128 Americans onboard) and the Sussex. After the U.S. told them to respect their neutrality, they stopped for a little while, but then continued on.
The Zimmerman note intercepted by England also led to the U.S. joining World War I. It was a proposition to Mexico that if they declared war on the U.S. Germany would help them gain back their lost territories in the U.S.
Giving in to public pressure, Wilson asked Congress for a declaration of war on April 2, 1917.
