(What, and leave the turtles & hamster home?) Don't take a dog into the desert, please on vacation. Don't risk it running off into the barren wilds, for what? ...Be serious about living and experiencing travel with each other (your husband), will you? Snap out of it, come on. Leave the dogs with somebody, or have a neighbor check in on them for crying out loud..

This is official NPS policy :
pets are not allowed below rim
pet's are allowed on rim trails provided that they are on leashes. which makes sense because there is wild life all over the place mostly all too friendly mule deer
Interestingly enough pets are not allowed in hotel rooms that are within the Park proper
Pets must be in the kennel during your visit

So if you really really need to take your dog- zuh
You may want to try lodging in the next town south Tusayan or the Cameron Trading Post In Cameron AZ -pretty nice place actually.
If you stay in Cameron you and your dogs will get to see a new species of canis familiaris ;
The Rez Dog .
Local legend has it that a film maker needed a three legged dog with two different color eyes to appear in his movie. The film maker asked a local Navajo man where he could find such an animal " What color ?" was the now legendary answer

I believe they are. There are campgrounds and hotels inside and just outside of the park. BUT...I must tell you that there is a nat problem that will drive your dogs crazy. Apparently there are not natural enemies for these bugs that come around the mules that were brought there. Do not underestimate them. There are millions and they might drive your dogs buggy.

Each inn outside the park probably has pet policies. But if you bring them inside the park, at least bring the bug spray.
