I told my buddy he was a good singer only to have him BOOED at an open mic last night. He does suck, by the way.

Just say "Well I thought you were good. Maybe it's just not your destiny to become a singer" and go on your merry way

Let your friend know that you thought that he was good, but singing might not be his destiny. At least he found out the hard way that he's not good at all, but his feelings were hurt. Encourage your friend to find something that he's good at and continue on with his life.
