I know the requirements (you've got to be at least 35, an American citizen, etc...) what I'm wondering how would a regular guy such as myself actually run. Would I have to declare my Presidency? And how would I go about doing that? If anyone out there really knows I would really be interested in hearing.
Thank you in advance.

To start with you would need to determine what party you identify youself with. Having selected a party and fully decided to run you would need to announce your candidacy. You must also file a form with the Federal Election Commission. At this point you will need to start fundraising to finance your campaign.

Next you would need to assemble your campaign team. This would include a campaign manager, fundraiser, press secretary, pollsters and many volunteers.

Candidates for major parties must attend primaries in several states including Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Prior to these primaries the candidate is expected to visit, stump and meet officials in the quest for votes.

Soon you must choose a running mate who will serve as your VP should you be elected. Major parties will then hold conventions to select a candidate. The candiate, while officially selected at the convention, is pretty much already known. Both Democrats and Republicans have nominating committees to select the candidate. The percentage of delegates sent by a candidate is determined by his/her performance in the primaries.

Once candidates are officially selected, campaigning continues and debates are held. A major issue for minor party candidates is ballot access which is too broad an issue to discuss here but relates to shown support in the form of obtained signatures and financing.
