I ordered the book, Car Builders Manual by Lionel Baxter, from Amazon.com, and it said it will tell you how to construct your own car. Is this actually possible?

Actually every car is built from scratch.
raw materials + design + fabrication + assembly = car.
So I would have to know what you mean by scratch.
any and all of these processes could be performed by any individual with correct ability.
if assembly is what you are referring to check out :

Sure, it can be done, if you've got the tools, the talent, the space, and the time. But getting all the parts yourself and building it that way is very expensive. I've seen estimates that say it would cost 4-5 times as much to do it this way as it would to buy a new car.

If you want to try this, you'd be better off to get an older car, strip it down, and rebuild it. This is how a lot of car restorers work. And you get a good supply of parts to work with, if the car you start with is reasonably complete - ie, it has an engine, transmission, interior, etc. A friend of mine did this with a semi truck a few years ago. He claimed he was getting it ready for his step-daughters to drive to school.

His wife divorced him instead.

You can buy kit cars that come with the body parts of the vehicle and find you a donor car for all of the mechanical parts. If you have ever seen a cobra replica it is the same thing.
