Did anybody see the episode of Final 24 on Monday about River Phoenix? It makes me really sad to see how such a young and talented actor made such a bad mistake and how we never got to see how he would turn out in Hollywood today. What are your thoughts?

I didn't see the show but River Pheonix was my first childhood celebrity crush. Stand By Me was probably my favorite movie growing up. It's so sad to know that such a talented actor left us so tragically. And also knowing & seeing how successful his brother Joaquin Pheonix is now it's sad to think of where River would be now if he was still alive.

Like many have before, and likely many more will come, another dead at the hands of an overdose. People who wish to use drugs are (or at least should be, unless they have an inability to learn anything) aware of the possible consequences. Phoenix was not the only one to die well before anyone could see their full potential. You can look at a list of people who died too young. It is in a way unfair to single out actors or singers on such a list. Maybe people who died young with a cause. People that were making an effort, fighting for a reason, not just personal gain and wealth. Maybe someone like Terry Fox, who saw cancer take his life at age 22. On a list of people who died young, Fox seems to be mentioned less than someone in the entertainment industry and for what reasons....Sadly, maybe it's just the entertainment industry is the standard of who people idolize. And no, I did not catch that show, I'm not sure if it is shown here.
