"Red" State Children at Greater Risk than Youths In "Blue" States, Reflecting Toll of Anti-Government Politics Drawing from official federal data, the book illustrates how living in a so-called "red" state appears to be more hazardous to the health of millions of American children. The factors weighed in the "Homeland Insecurity" ranking include such indicators as inadequate pre-natal care, lack of health care insurance coverage, early death, child abuse, and teen incarceration.

Based on this diverse range of 11 child-related statistical measures, nine of the 10 top states with the best outcomes for children are so-called "blue" states (WI, NJ, WA, MN, ME, MA, CT, VT and #1-ranked NH, with IA being the sole "red" state in the group) and all 10 of the bottom states with the worst outcomes for children are so-called "red" states (WY, GA, AR, AL, SC, TX, OK, NM, LA, and MS

Being a child living in a red state is not a cause for concern. The real question is WHY do the blue state children seem to be better off? Having lived in both areas of the country, my opinion is that the higher taxes in the blue states pay for more services for children in those states.

True. Blue states are also richer on average over the red states. This is because they are "greedy". The blue states just aren't paying enough in taxes to have income redistribution. The rich states should be paying more in taxes. Raise the taxes another 15% - 25% so more help can be given to the children of southern Americans who live in these red states.

I stay in a blue state (California - solid Democratic assembly, weak "Republican" governor) and issues might want to no longer worsen. we've the optimal state taxes contained in the country, merely higher some months in the past, optimal revenues taxes, and our funds has $24 billion hollow into it so probable they are going to tax us extra and decrease facilities. The governor stated that in the experience that they do no longer agree in per week on a funds, state will run out of money in some weeks. yet if you happen to make next to no longer something, it might want to be heaven because we've distinctive human beings on welfare, unemployment, nutrition stamps, or perhaps unlawful immigrants get state incapacity at the same time as they are injured (and are not deported once they get better), our college are overcrowded yet unlawful immigrant children no longer purely get loose training - the unfavorable get loose lunches and help as well, and also there are criminal immigrants the following that deliver their disabled relations and position them on the California Medicaid "loose" health care (paid for by beneficiant California taxpayers - i know because I artwork in health care). i glance ahead to transferring elsewhere once i'm getting my degree i'm at present engaged on, i'm too close to to move. And in the experience that your state is so tremendous, i might want to easily bypass in there :)

You're kidding, right? I didn't think political affiliations meant anything to most criminals. This smells suspiciously like a badly-formed piece of propaganda to me. I've lived in Utah all my life, which is probably the reddest state in the country, and I have never had any problems with criminals; whereas if I lived in, say, New York or any of those other deep blue states, there's a high possibility that I would have fallen victim to at least one crime by now.

Think about it logically rather than on the basis of "Oh, he's an evil conservative, he wants to kill our children," and I think you'll see what I mean. That is, unless you don't want to.

Well the statistics are most likely skewed. It has been shown that liberals are les slikely to have children and have fewer children than conservatives. That sliek the stat that "you are most likely to die in a car crash withing 5 miles of your home" Well DUH you drive more within 5 miles fo your home....but the statistic make sit sound like the 5 miles within your home is the most dangerous place to drive

Also look at that great shining example of a democratic state LOUISIANNA. Yeah all that welfare state socialist BS worked out great when Katrina hit....guess they over looked a government program to pay for individuals flood insurance on their government housing. Gimme a break.

My question would be...Why are so many "Northerners" leaving in mass to live in the "South"? Could it be that the ones from the North have screwed it up so bad no one wants to live there anymore?

I don't think its that cut and dry. The top states you mention also had more wealth in them -- read more taxes, jobs, revuenue to go around.

The bottom 10 in your list tend to be lower income/poorer states-- read, less revenue to deal with those issues of poverty etc.

Shortly after I become president, I'm going to incorrectly declare that all red states have WMDs. A massive bombing campaign will begin immediately thereafter destroying red stater's infrastructure and killing massive numbers of red stater's, their family members and their friends. When it becomes revealed that no red states had any WMDs, I'll merely alter my premiss to being that I want to bring red staters a better democracy.

This is all a bunch of nonsense. The main factor in how our children are raised is parental involvement. What does it matter what "color" a state is? Your children will grow up the way you raise them.
