Think they are told to say this so that we are convinced we are calling somewhere down the road. Yep we are all convinced. Either that or they think we wont be able to pronounce their names or maybe his name is really steve

I saw a tv programme a while back about Indian call centre workers and (maybe it was just for one particular firm) they were given advice on how to get on with their British callers. They were briefed on the latest storylines in Corrie and 'Enders; the weather in the UK; sports results, etc.
So it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were encouraged to take on a British name!

Some indian people who have indian names often have English names too because people cannot always pronounce their name. Just like english people do not use their real names. Its the same.

Yes, I think we're all fed up with these indian call centres. Lets face it though, if he'd given you his proper name you would probably have said, "What?" or "Can you spell that."
Was it someone trying to sell you something..... I cant even be bothered to be pleasant to them... it drives me to distraction.

They are told to use an English name it's supposed to make you feel more at ease when speaking to them , the fact that they are totally useless makes me uneasy.
