Because poor spelling can lead to mistakes or misinterpretations.
Anything that stands in the way of clear communication, like bad spelling, grammar, and punctuation, or a lack of sentence structure, should be avoided.

If we get the wrong point, then your entire message is wasted.

Fundamentally spelling is an important skill to master. It is always a good idea to use consistent spelling and grammatical practices.
Not taking the time to spell words correctly is just laziness or ignorance.

because most people out here on the net are real ***'s and like to make people feel bad about themselves but i don't see what the harm is if someone uses shorthand and misspell a couple of words and as long as they are talking to someone they know or talk to on a reg basis then it shouldn't matter and for the most part with shorthand most people can figure it out on their own if you have a question about what the person you are talking to is saying just ask them its not like you are going to be talking to the person in real life unless they are your friends in real life so just give people a break

The shorthand that people make up or the misspellings often make it difficult to determine the meaning of the questions.

Because you're not gonna get too far in this world being a lousy speller.

Spelling DOES matter. If you think it doesn't, you're kidding yourself.
