1)Where do you draw the line (monetary value) between Middle Class and the Poor?

2)How much money does a company have to make before you classify it as evil "Big Business"? (monetary value needed here too)

I'm not trying to dodge the questions-but it's complicated! I wish there were simple answers. For instance $20,000 a year in a small town in Kansas is probably decent. But $20,000 in a large city is low wage. If you pay for your own insurance, it gets worse. If you are young, that's not too bad. If you're 50, your insurance could cost $600 a month(for a healthy person with high deductible) or more than $20,000 if you are a cancer survivor!

"Everyone wants to believe they are middle class... But this eagerness... has led the definition to be stretched like a bungee cord - used to defend/attack/describe everything... Ah yes, there's a group of people bound to run into each other while house-hunting." -Dante Chinni, The Christian Science Monitor. 2005

I think these are good guidelines:

While there is no one coherent definition of middle class and the incomes of those to whom the term is applied will likely vary depending on how one defines middle class, certain income trends may be helpful. Depending on whether the middle class is defined as consisting of professionals or of those in the middle of the income strata the following income trend may or may not be helpful in determining what middle class is. In 2004, the middle fifty percent of households had annual gross incomes between $22,500 and $75,000. The top quarter (26.8%) of households earned more than $75,000 while the bottom quarter earned (25.24%) earned less than $22,500 annually.[29] Overall the median personal income of a male, age 25 or older was $33,517, while that for a female was $19,679. The median income for a similar male with a college degree was $55,751; $73,853 for those with a PhD.[30] The median household income for a household with two income earners was $67,348, roughly twice the overall median personal income of an American male over the age of 25. The overall median household income in the country was $43,318.[31]

There are also some good charts there. There are also links to material referenced. My sister once told me she was middle class making $120,000 a year. I disagree but also would say you're not rich at that level-but you are in the top 1% of income earners.

2. I don't believe monetary value indicates "evil" so I can't answer that one. There are large companies that are good and large ones that are bad. I don't link evil to money at all. Nothing thrills me more than the good guys getting rich!

2 answers for the neocon... Things are not as simple as you and many others (liberal and conservative) like to pretend that they are.

1. There is no well defined line between the middle class and the poor. But the poor and needy obviously exist and it would be less than human not to help those who, through no fault of their own, need help. Obviously you are not in that situation and don't consider poverty to be a problem. Or at least not your problem.

2. It is not the amount of money a corporation makes that causes it to be "evil big business." A large corporation acting responsibly is not evil. A mom & pop shop that abuses their employees and the general public is evil.

When a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company lets people suffer and die because they cannot afford to support the company's huge profits... When they lobby to keep the poor and elderly from buying drugs from other countries where the company doesn't have a monopoly or a stranglehold on the government, and therefore charges lower prices... When that company or industry creates a pittance of a giveaway program to create a public relations illusion of compassion and generosity as a means to protect their profits, that is evil.

1. The distinction between middle class and the poor is not measured with a specific monetary benchmark. You cannot just say that anyone earning less than a particular income is poor. There are many variables.

2. Neither income, nor net worth nor assets have a bearing on a corporation being called evil "Big Business". What does, however, earn them the title is exploiting their employees, damaging the environment without accountability, unethical business practices, gouging their customers, manipulating free markets, bilking tax payers, and engaging in anti-trust activities. In other words, Halliburton, Exxon, and Kellogg, Root & Brown.

1) This changes on an annual basis, but here are a couple links on how it is calculated:
http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/povdef.html#1
http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/threshld/thresh04.html

2) That will depend on how many employees it keeps and the median slary of the employees.

But a quick guesstimate would be an annual gross revenue of greater than $200,000 more than the median salary (for each employee). In other words, take the annual revenue, subtract (the median salary times the number of employees) and divide by the number of employees. If this is greater than $200,000 then there is definitely Big Business going on.

As for evil, then that has more to do with skirting tax responsibilities and polluting the environment, than profit margin.

The government seems happy with a mean household income of $42,642 for family of four. I don't know if you want to consider that a Liberal or Conservative number, in fact I didn't even know there were Liberal or Conservative numbers.

Your other question would be speculative since it would depend on the person answering as there is no category for evil, or even good Big Business.

a million) Conservatives are authentic particularly frequently. the situation is that their spokespeople are in many situations idiots (in simple terms like the liberals' spokespeople). some issues the conservatives are authentic approximately: a) decrease taxes, administration spending. Too undesirable that those in fee in basic terms talk to this yet do no longer actual do something whilst they're on top of issues. b) Fewer gun administration rules. on a similar time as i don't experience that i could very own a gun, i do no longer think of that persons could learn they can't very own one under maximum circumstances. the only 2 issues i could pick to work out are competency tests and regulations on some militia weapons. i do no longer think of that we could have device weapons or rocket launchers. i'm no longer precisely particular the place i could draw the line yet I do think of there could be a line. c) Affirmative action isn't stable. It encourages racism somewhat than fixing area of the situation. 2) some issues that the Left does that aggravate me are: a) thinking they have each and all the solutions. the the main suitable option does this too yet your question replaced into in particular relating to the Left. b) Too many courses. we don't could help all of us each and all the time. we are able to consolidate courses and function those artwork in direction of giving people a hand up. c) Complaining that the the main suitable option isn't working with them whilst it particularly is the two aspects who're actual no longer keen to artwork mutually. the the main suitable option does a similar element yet lower back, this replaced into relating to the Left There are plenty extra. maximum of my problems are everyday ones. Too frequently people in politics think of that "working mutually" skill "doing issues my way." the two aspects spend way too plenty and don't likely concentration on making our united states of america extra effective or extra secure. somewhat they concentration on getting additional funds from agency/lobbyists so they're able to get elected lower back.

LOL! You cons and you amusing questions!

The Dept of Labor Statistics defines the line bewteen Middle class and poor. Perhaps you should go to their site and educate yourself.

BIg Business isnt evil. Big buisiness's stranglehold on govt is evil, illegal business practices are evil, business practices that suit them and screw others is evil, business practices that kill people is evil. Money by itself is not evil.

Jesus taught us that its near impossible for a rich man to enter his kingdom, he taught us to not worship wealth. I find cons hard to believe when they call themselves Christian.

1.)

When Liberals are attempting to claim that their actions have improved the economic situation in their district, they tend to set the minimum monetary level for entry into the "middle class" very low, so as to increase this group as much as possible, thus allowing them to claim that they have "increased the middle class".

However, when a Republican is seeking re-election, these same Liberals attempt to raise the minimum income level for entry into the "middle class" as high as possible to attempt to create the appearance that the middle class is shrinking.

Though, historically, socialistic programs, instituted both abroad, and here, by the Democrats, have been shown to shrink the middle class by impoverishing people under huge tax burdens.

2.)

An "evil big business" is simply any busness, regardless of size, that does not donate to Liberal causes and/or is currently being vilified by Hollywood.
