the detroit red wings always do amazing in the regular season usually racking up 105+ points and usually finish 1st in the NHL, but they always seem to lose in the 1st round of the playoffs. does anyone know why this is and will it happen again this year?

Figures this would come from someone named Leafs Fan! In the last 15 years 2 teams have won 3 Cups....if the Wings cant get past the 1st round then how in the world did they win the Cup 3 times? And how many Cups have the Leafs won in the past....Oh, lets say.....40 years? Not so cool when another fan calls out your team....is it! Better yet how many seasons does it take the Leafs to rack up 105 points? Edmonton played for the Cup last year, at least somewhere in Canada they still know how to play! Love reading all the Leafs fans who bi*** about the Wings buying Cups while the Leafs overpay for bad players while the Wings develop guys like Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom along with nearly half of their roster. Hot goalies have led many an upset in the playoffs....would you really consider guys like Ward, Roloson (and dont hand out any crap over how good he really is, he did next to nothing before last year barely able to win the starting job on an expansion team!), Gerber (ask an Ottawa fan about how good he is), Khabibulin (maybe the Leafs can deal for him) etc, etc., etc.. The league is full of one time goalie wonders and sometimes teams get beat by them and some times the Wings didnt play well enough to deserve to win but ignorant comments about how bad the Wings are just show how stupid some people can be. I respect other teams and dont make a habit of bashing them. If a team is good enough to beat my Wings then congrats and good luck to them....to the haters that are jealous of the Wings dedication to winning....bi*** at your team management instead of hating! Hate your teams management for putting losers out on the ice, Wing management cares about their fans and tries every year!

Has anyone noticed that they last three teams to knock the Wings out of the playoffs have made it into the Stanley Cup Finals? Ducks, Flames, and Oilers.
And that all 3 teams lost game 7 on the road in the finals.

The rosters the years the wings won the cup all had two things in common. Those years the wings had the best 3rd and 4th lines in the league. Every playoff team can put up two good lines, it was the wings depth and ability to roll four lines that got them to the top.
The second thing those teams had was named Scotty Bowman.

They don't ALWAYS lose in the 1st round. They won the Cup back to back in 97-98. They won the Cup in 2002.
But when they do get knocked out in the first round I think it is because they wear themselves in the regular season and leave nothing for the playoffs. I don't think that will happen this year.

They won 3 Stanley Cups the last 10 Years, I think they're Good team that Gotten Old, Why would they More Titles any way.

Well i'm going to argue for two sides
Who wouldn't be the best regular season team when half of your schedule consist of teams like the blackhawks and blues?
And generally they don't choke, last year being an exception

Sometimes I think we expect too much from our wings, We play the same game, but other teams when it comes playoff time, step up.

getting long in the tooth, the team cannot sustain the level of play into the playoffs that they maintain during the season.

choke? they've been one of the best playoff teams around. they've won 3 cups since 97. Only the Devils have one that many since 1990.
