Koufax without a doubt. His K's were more meaningful since the Dodgers went on to win the pennant and world series that year. (1965)

Ryans feat was more amazing because the DH rule. Granted, Sandy Koufax was a phenominal pitcher and Hall Of Famer, but the fact that he had a better record than Ryan is absolutely not an argument. Koufax was 27-9 for a World Series winning team, and Ryan pitched for the California Angels. Ryan was 21-16 and had an ERA of only 2.87 while receiving zero run-support. By the way, this question is strictly about Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax and their remarkable strikeout seasons.

Yes Koufax had a better record. Yes the Dodgers won a pennant and went to the World Series while the Angels did not. However you can't penalize one pitcher or reward the other due to the other players on their respective teams. You can only compare what each did on the mound.
Koufax had 2 advantages. He got to face 50+ easy outs in the form of opposing pitchers and he pitched in the pre-Bob Gibson era before the mound was lowered.
Considering that Ryan recorded more strikeouts under tougher conditions, I would say his 383 was more than 1 k better than Koufax's excellent season.

Don't forget the fact that many times in Koufax's great season, opposing managers probably were reluctant to give their pitching staffs at-bats against him. I'm quite sure he saw plenty of pinch hitters in the pitchers spot.
Also, Ryan walked 162 batters in his year as opposed to 71 from koufax. Ryan's ERA was a solid 2.87 whereas Koufax's was a paltry 2.04.
Give me Koufax over Ryan any day.
Quite honestly, Randy Johnson's 372 K's in 2001 is probably the most remarkable. Given the fact that he pitched 249 innings as opposed to Ryan's 326 and Koufax's 335.

Not to me because the quality of the guys that were D.H.'s that first year were not much better than pitchers. Also ryan pitched 330 plus innings to reach 383, Koufax pitched about the same number of innings but his e.r.a. was 1+ run better and he was 26-6.

Ryan is/was a stud no doubt. But Koufax's record is more impressive when you also add in the fact that his ERA was lower, and walked fewer batters, lost fewer games, and won more games than Ryan. Koufax's record was also at the end of his carreer, and Ryan's when he was starting.
The margin is slim, but I give it to Koufax

Not nearly as impressive as the fact Koufax had a better record and lower earned run average.Or as impressive as Koufax's World Series record.

i do no longer care the two way. If it facilitates a team, then they could use it. If it hurts a team, they do no longer ought to apply it. Steve Stone and Hawk Herrelson talk approximately this plenty interior the activity (sure, I do placed up with those 2 on a time-honored foundation). It hurts a tumbler mentally. while they have the pitch count quantity, it consistently looks a a hundred-pitch decrease. So while they're at 70+ pitches, they're questioning of their head that they are tiring. this could have them throwing worse in this time. additionally, if a tumbler is doing sturdy, they ought to go away him in there. yet with the pitch count quantity, this is take him out at a hundred. on the different, a pitch count quantity lowers the possibility of a throwing harm and can supply the pitcher with greater effective than adequate relax in the previous his next start up. And if the bullpen is sturdy, possibly 6-7 innings of paintings is sturdy adequate for a win. merely relies upon on the gang.
