Yes they need to see that, you still need to fill out forms and such for tax info and your employer needs to be able to verify your information, now weather or not that ID needs to be up to date im not sure.

Yes, as part of the I-9 form you have to present something with your name and picture on it so they can verify that you are the person you are claiming to be.
