squirrels, slugs, sowbugs and other insects eat mushrooms. Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of specific types of fungus, not the vegetative bodies,so they don't feed. The mushroom's "job" is to release spores to propagate the species.

Mushrooms are eaten by many animals. Pigs, of course, which is why dogs are used to sniff out truffles: insects, squirrels and rodents.

Fungi feed on decaying plant matter. They do not have chlorophyll, so cannot make food like plants can.
