Yes. These guys have it right, more or less. Go to calgaryherald.com, craigslist.com or mls.ca to find out what's available for housing. Do your math and find out what you need for earnings to make it work. It should not be difficult to find the right job, but it pays to know.

Here is some more info...

Look on line for the Calgary Herald or the Calgary Sun these are the two major newspapers for Calgary . Lastly the vacancy rate throughout Alberta is close to 0 so it would be a good idea to find accommodations in these papers first before finding a job (which should not be a problem) , and also good luck.

My family and I just left Calgary because of the high housing costs, but EVERYONE out there is looking for construction people, especially skilled trades. The job part would be so easy - finding a place to live may be the hard part.

I am a mortgage broker from Edmonton, Alberta and I can only give you a idea about edmonton. But there's an amazing amount of opportunities for trades in alberta. One company that advertize here all the time is Gunslinger Framers. One thing I would recommend is try and find a place to live before you move out here as there's a cronic shortage of rental properties.

We operate an Insulation, Drywall, Taping, Texturing contracting business and are actively hiring the right individuals to serve as employees or sub-contractors in a variety of positions. In Calgary, the tradesmen specialize in one area as compared to other areas of the country where one guy does all. We have crews whom only insulate, whom only hang drywall, whom only tape, whom only sand, whom only texture, whom only provide touch-ups, whom only clean etc. It would be of interest to know what your specialty is, or what aspect of the process you might enjoy most. Our company exists to serve the Custom Home movement - which requires a high level of quality from our associated trades...but the financial renumeration is befitting of what is required. Please contact Kor Colyn at Frelijne Interior Contracting Ltd. to discuss the potential of a successful career in Calgary. You may call my cell at 403-333-8889, email me at korcolyn@frelijne.com or fax your resume and a cover letter to 403-274-0321.
