I sell it (started 3months ago). I want to know how it is working for you and if you will continue and if not why, just curios. Do you get along with your director and team member (do they harass you).

I started selling it around this time last year. Well, I didn't exactly sell anything. I wasn't told before I began that before I couldn't get any of my orders out to my customers that I'd have to sell like $250 dollars worth of merchandise. Plus, my director was not only extremely over-zealous but she was constantly calling me to make sure I'd be at meetings, everyday from Wednesday to Tuesday afternoon. She even called while I was at church a few times! But that wasn't what made me quit. What made me completely quit was our meetings were on Tuesdays and my birthday fell on a Tuesday last year. When I told them I wouldn't be there that day because I had plans with my boyfriend and my family, they all looked at me like I was a traitor and explained how I should reschedule my family's and my boyfriend's plans just to accomodate a non-mandatory meeting. One girl even had the nerve to say "ah, you'll have a birthday next year! Tell 'em you don't have time to celebrate it this year!" SHE WAS SERIOUS! After the way I was treated, I stayed as far away from them as I could get. I didn't answer my phone when my director called and I don't even buy anything from Mary Kay anymore.

I laughed when I read this question, simply because I had the same question when I started 3 years ago. I love Mary Kay. I love it because it is a company where you can tell your Director what your goals are, what you want help with, what you don't want help with, etc. It's nice because Director's really respect us. When I first started, my income was my family's sole income. I had to make money and make it quick. SO I ran full force, never missed a meeting, talked to my Director on a daily basis. It worked great then just like now. The only thing that has changed is my need of income. My husband landed a great job and I have more time to be with my kids. The extra money is wonderful. I love the company because they really do want you to keep your priorities in order: God, Family, Career!! Who else really wants you to do that?? I have never had anyone harass me in Mary Kay. It is a company that really cares. If you want to get to Directorship or National Sales Director then there is a system...a path that you follow. One that has worked for everyone else. So you never have to go and figure out how to get there. You just have to be motivated enough to do it. I have grown so much through Mary Kay. I love the values, the friends, the leaders. I will never quit Mary Kay. I love that I can do as little or as much work as I want depending on what is going on in my life. No other job would let me take time off (for weeks or months at a time!) I also love the amount of money we make! It is true, the average is 25.00 an hour, but that is minimum. I have had several classes that I made 75.00 per hour and 100.00 per hour. Keep in mind though that you have to do the work. The product sells itself because it is soooo good, your job is to sell yourself! Meet people and make the friends, hold the appointments. You get what you give!!! I hope this helped some. If you have any further questions feel free to email me. julies_angels@sbcglobal.net

I don't sell Marykay however I do have 11 years in direct selling. I own a home party plan company and I also sell Beauticontrol on the side.

There is a HUGE turnover rate in direct selling. Whether it is home parties or direct selling (Marykay). Most people get involved to get the products at a discount, not understanding that yes, there is money to be earned, but you actually have to go out there and get the clients to earn the money, its a business, NOT a hobby. Those that consider it a "hobby" fail in their first 6 months. Those that consider it a business, succeed, its a rather simple process. You are not going to get along with every single person you meet. Some directors or team members are very pushy because they feel if they do this then they can motivate you. You can not be motivated when you feel pushed...right? However, then there are those that are wonderful. I personally recommend not caring how others are going, because that is not how you are going to succeed. YOU ARE THE ONLY PERSON THAT DECIDES WHETHER YOU MAKE MONEY OR NOT. It is no one else's decision. I wish you the best of luck in all you do!

I was so gungho when I started selling it. I even got a person in underneath me. All of a sudden I realized that unless you could make a $400.00 retail order you had to pay full price for items and then you would not be making much money at all. I could not afford to make the second quarter order. I made it the first quarter and since I was not ordering as much they made me inactive. That really sort of hurt so I quit selling it. I love the products but just could not afford to stay in it. The person that I got in under is also running into the same problem she just can't afford to make that large of an order each quarter. Last I heard she was almost completely out of it too. Also our director was a pink Cadillac driving Director. Our sales went down and she lost her Pink Cadillac and had to go to the red Pontiac. She was very upset with all of us and kind of chewed us out at a meeting. All that combined is what made me quit.
