Even as a Dem, I'm gagging over which candidates are likely to get thru the primaries.
Hillary? she's unelectable, and i wouldn't vote for her anyway.
Obama? too young, inexperienced in D.C. workings.
Edwards? too provincial, not exactly a JFK statesman.
The Repubs are no better:
Rudy - unelectable, too much scandal in his past.
Romney - a wacko.
McCain - maybe the least objectionable of the lot.

Please don't tell me these are the best and brightest people in our country, I know for a fact they are not.

Only in the fact that the best one's are not being promoted by the media. Like Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, or Duncan Hunter.

I am but this will make the 08 a really hot election. Now, I support Tancredo, Paul or Hunter because they're anti-illegal immigration. I really think that third parties can do well in 08. The only known candidates I tolerate are Giuliani and Obama but I think we need to build our future. I think if third parties can start campaigning now, they can really do something! If none of the candidates I mentioned at the beginning make it, I'll support a Libertarian. I'm very disappointed with the Democrats, it seems that they haven't learned anything from the 2004 election and they should go to the moderate wing. If more of us support a third party in 08, we can build our country for a viable third party. We need to stop listening to pessimists and remember we elect these buggers to power, we should all campaign and vote against someone that is doing a lousy job. We can still open our political system but it has to be now. Americans, let's unite!

Unfortunately, you only mentioned the ones that media has decided are the frontrunners. There are many more people on both sides that are looking into Presidential runs. If we can get the word out about some of the other candidates maybe we can shake up the polling numbers a bit. Personally, I'm supporting Tom Tancredo, although I must say that I also like Duncan Hunter a lot as well.

I don't necessarily want the "best and brightest". I want someone who's going to do what I think the government should do. Would you rather have someone who's trying with limited success to do what the government should be doing, or someone who's really smart, charismatic, etc. and is very effective at doing the wrong things?

I'm depressed about the front runners because there's not a single one who thinks the government is the problem, not the solution and therefore wants to reduce the size and power of the government.

How about a constitutional ammendment that says "none of the above" must be a choice on the ballot and if "none of the above" wins we don't have a president for the next 4 years. Would having nobody be any worse than having Hillary?

Hillary, Obama & Edwards ARE the best & brightest the Dems have to offer. Says a lot about the Dems.

I don't know why you think Rudy is unelectable. His private life has been less than stellar, but the same was true for Slick Willie & he won. I don't know much about Romney, but nothing I've heard identifies him as a wacko. I like Sam Brownback.

Depression has set in because the media has only reported what they want you to hear. You have not listed other candidates because they don't receive enough air time and you dont know enough about them to even list them. You've left out Dr. Ron Paul. He's experienced, electable, highly informed economically, votes CONSTITUTION (which should be the basis for people voting for presidents), doesn't vote party lines ( one of the republicans against going to war in Congress. He's nicknamed "Dr. No" in Congress because usually he's the one dissenting vote. He's been voted the Taxpayer's best friend for years. He understands about taxes and the effects of our fiat system. He's totally qualified, yet, not many people know about him, and this question is a specific case of that. Does it not shock whomever has not heard of Dr.Ron Paul that he hasn't received the air-time like Obama and Clinton? Please, don't just consider the popular candidates.
Einstein said "what's right is not always popular and what's popular is not always right." keep that in mind, and your horizens may broaden past media coverage.
Consider the Constitution.

Yes, I am too, now that you`ve filled me in on the choises.

One thing is certain: elect Mc Cain, and you`ll have a couple of those oil wars in addition tho iraq, afganistan and...iran?...abroad and some tax-raisings.

In addition, you`ll have a cold war you wont believe, with good old russia.

You should read what the russians write and think about mc cain and the things he`s said about russians..

Im european, so I see (away from us. gov. propaganda) things happening more clearer between you , world and and russia

I hope you do little better this time, than before. that Bush-dude was quite a surprise of developed country like USA is.

If you're depressed by this gang of - what shall we call them? - worthies, just think how you're gonna feel as the election cycles roll by for the next few decades.

Get used to it - the idea of being President attracts a few good people and an entire auditorium full of opportunists, panderers, megalomaniacs, incompetents and worse. The best ones don't want anything to do with it and, maybe, for good reason.

I agree completely. The candidates from both parties leave a lot to be desired. I'm a Republican and am not pleased with the candidates. Maybe the Democrats and the Republicans can get together and agree that Christopher Walken should be elected as President. I would listen to all of his speeches.

I can not imagine anything worse than what we have had in the past eight years. There is so much corruption and blood on the hands of our current president. What kind of choices do we have. We now have a man who can not say one sentence without error. He has gotten us in a war that is so devistating to our young men who are being killed everyday because of a lie. We still do not have the person responsible for 9/11 in custody. I think I could do a better job so I say we go with Obama or Hillary and count our blessings. I agree that there is not much choice but the republicans have us in a mess we can not get out of and it seems democrats are always having to come in and clean up the messes. (Not exactly a popular statement I am sure but look at history!!!)
