Why are educators scaring our children about Man made global warming. Isnt this a concern that adults should have and that only adults can solve? Why scare them about something that might even be completely wrong? Wouldnt it be better to keep scaring them about stranger danger which is a REAL problem?
Lets let our kids sleep well over the things they cannot possible control. (oh and maybe we should stop lying to them as well.. mand made global warming comes mostly from politics not science.. scientists dont PUSH issues, politicians do. WHY are they pushing so hard to scare kids?????)

Many years ago teachers where scaring children about the healt effects of smoking. My kids came home crying because they didn't want me do die of cancer...I quit smoking, and there was all these benefits, we all got sick less often, and my kids didn'e end up smoking as adults.
If your kid is right and has legitimate concerns, parents should listen, hear, and act. It's our kids who will really be suffering the effects of global warming, so take some positive steps to be part of the solution.

Stephen Hawkins is convinced it's man's fault.

The question is not, why are we scaring our children, but rather; when will humanity realise their own mistakes?

We are not scaring our children, we are merely teaching them right from wrong.

Abusing Earth = wrong.
Treating Earth in a good and kind manner = right.

We have been selfishly abusing Earth for a long time, and now we're paying our own dues. Just because we wanted an easy life for us.
I won't be the first one to say that humanity is not just a mammal, but more accurately, a parasitic mammal. We come somewhere, settle down if we feel like we can prosper there, and then we start building our own surroundings, at the cost of the surroundings that were already there. It started out innocently, but looking at the proportions it's taken by now - all different kinds of pollution that not only distort the atmosphere in various ways, but also the space around it... light pollution, air pollution, sound pollution, and so on - it's become so large that it has the ability to distort and in the end destroy anything - plant life, animal life, even human life - on its own... and it doesn't even need our help; we've fuelled it more than enough. And yes, it's all our own fault.

Now THAT is scarey. But it's the truth.

If you have cancer, you would prefer to know, instead of wanting the doctor to just not tell you about it?

There's a fine line between scaring our kids and educating our kids. Some people believe that teaching through fear is the best way to teach life lessons, but in the end all you do is teach 'fear itself'.

The problem stems from trying to explain something to a child which they don't have the capability to understand yet. All they can hear is that here is danger, but they don't understand why.

If each person took the time to educate their child on something the child, themselves, could do to make this a greener planet, it would be far more effective than just 'scaring them'. Arming them with things they CAN do, regarding stranger danger, is also effective.

There are ways to teach children things not through fear, but unfortunately, if we weren't taught that way ourselves, we may not know how ...

This might be a bit of a sweeping generalization -- but I wouldn't know since it's been quite a while since I've been in an elementary school classroom. I would agree with you that we don't fully understand the phenomenon and its causes, but it is no longer deniable that the temperature around the globe is warming up. It's good that kids be aware of this one way or the other, as it might mean that some big changes will occur in their lifetime. Whether or not altering their behaviors in terms of energy consumption will change this course is debatable. I would argue that it's good to treat our children not to be wasteful, however, for a number of reasons aside from global warming.

We've always scared kids.
Remember the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm?
How about the boogeyman?
...and of course, if you're not good, you're going to Hell.

When I was a kid, it was kidnapers, the threat of Communism, nuclear war, and untreatable diseases.

We grew up okay. The kids will do just fine living under a threat of Global Warming. The Soviet Union is gone, so... I think it evens out over time.

I'm not convinced of man made global warming. However, if good earth saving practices are developed in our children, so be it. ALSO, you're right, stranger danger is a real problem, but kids have more to be afraid of than just the monstrous strangers. I was molested by two blood related uncles, who told me not to tell anyone. I didn't. Nobody warned me about them.

I think people are trying to educate our children, not scare them. The best chance we have is to educate our children
