I am so stressed out at work bc of the lenders changing the guidelines and I feel like I need a day off to recharge by batteries. But I'm afraid of asking my boss. What should I do? I do not wanna call in sick, so that's not an option.
How should I ask him? Should I tell him I'm stressed?

"Mr. Smith, I need to take a personal day off next week. Which day works best for you?"

Tell your boss that you have some personal stuff you need to take care of and ask when would be a good day for you to take the day off to take care of some things. If he presses the issue to know what stuff, tell him it's girl stuff (which really it's just mental well-being but you get what I'm saying) and that will usually suffice. But by telling him you need to take care of things you are not lying and by asking when would be the best time to take off, you are still giving him some say so. If he says no, maybe you should consider checking into some other places of employment...everyone needs a day off every now and then.

AND be extra sure that you actually relax on your day off.

Whatever you do, don't get personal. It is a business setting, and he/she is a business associate. You need a day off. That's all he/she needs to know. If he/she needs an explanation, explain in a matter of fact way, don't be emotional about it. When you come to a boss with a problem, you should always have a solution ready to offer as well. Explain how you will be able to take a day off and still meet all of your responsibilities. Have a plan of action. Good luck.

Tell them you are stressed out and are having headaches and you need a day off to relax before you have a stroke. Or say you have a doctors appointment.

Stress leave. Legally your boss has to give you paid time off. Other wise you got a human rights case on your hands.

do you work seven days a week? i can't see you boss saying "okay you are stressed and can't handle your job so have the day off" unless you are sleeping with him. take a sick day or lie to him if you need a break.

Don't ask. Tell. That always goes over better.

Ex. 1 "Hey, I need the day off to recuperate".
Chances are that wont work as well as this...

Ex. 2 "*insert name here*, I'm going to take the day off!"

the only way you can get your point across is by being blunt. and i dont mean James Blunt. I mean BLUNT. tell him that you need a day off that you are stressed and you will be able to perform better with a lil rest. that does the trick for me.
