No. The pin layout and number of pins on the DIMMs (sticks) are different. They physically will not fit.

DDR = 184 pin

DDR2 = 240 pin

Additional note: Just to clear up some confusion, your motherboard chipset will either support DDR1 or DDR2. There is no backwards compatibility from DDR2 to DDR1 or vice versa. These are two different types of memory, not just differences in speed. You can run different speeds of RAM (ie: PC2100, PC2700, PC3200 for DDR1 or PC4200, PC5400, PC6400 for DDR2 etc) and they will operate at the lowest speed if you have more than one stick with different speeds, but the memory TYPE must be the same type for all since your board can only support either DDR1 or DDR2.

Your old motherboard has two memory slots but both are for DDR1 type RAM if it's a DDR1 type board. The second slot is to add in a second memory stick of the same type. If it says it supports "dual channelling" then that is different than DDR2. Dual channelling requires two of the same capacity and model memory for increased performance and works on both DDR1 or DDR2 motherboards. If your second slot was for DDR2 then you physically would not be able to plug a DDR1 type stick into it.

Also DDR1 runs at 2.8v and DDR2 runs at 1.8v so if even if it were made to fit, you'd likely fry something.

Check your mobo specs, some do support both memory types.
In case it does support both types you can only use either DDR or DDR2 at a time, you cant mix.

EDIT: in your case with the MSI K9N your limited to DDR2 as shown below.

Supports Dual DDR2 533/667/800
4 DDR2 DIMMs (240pin / 1.8V)
Supports a maximum memory size up to 8GB.

you may't use DDR in a motherboard that takes DDR2. It wont even slot interior the slot. in spite of if there are a (very) few Pentium 4 boards that could have slots for the two DDR and DDR2, yet maximum won't have slots for the two and you may't combination them!

it would work, but it will operate at a lower speed.

for example ddr pc 3200 operates at about 400MHz,

while ddr2 pc 4200 operates at 533MHz

it would work but i would strongly suggest buying ddr2 ram and using it

No.

DDR2 is completely different and not compatible with DDR.

You will need to buy new memory.

well it depends on what sort of motherboard it is.
eg giving the model number would have really helped.
