Would you willingly give up your individualism and your inalienable rights just to get "something for nothing"?
Would you be willing to pay more money for an inferior healthcare product just so that you don't have to go out and buy it?
Who is responsible for ensuring your success in life?

NO!!!
We have been moving closer and closer to the points made in the Communist Manifesto for decades. I wish Newt hadn't gotten a black eye in politics b/c he's the only one who seems to realize that we are headed in the wrong direction.
In fact, 50 years ago defense spending was 60% of the budget and payments for social programs (welfare, social security, medicare and medicaid) was 22% of the budget. In 2006 defense spending dropped to 20% and social programs increased to 60%.
We should be responsible for our success and government's job is to stay out of the way while maintaining our security. Many who claim to stand up for the little guy today are actually guilty of the bigotry of low expectations.

While I would never give up individualism or any of my inalinable rights for anything free or otherwise I do also realize that there are some among us that aren't able to take care of themselves. Whether we depend on families, faith based institutions, half government and half private, totally priveate or totally government care these people need to be taken care of.
I would not pay for an inferior healthcare product. Some people can't pay for any health care product good or bad. Are they supposed to die?
Each of us is responsible for our own success in life but no one can do it alone. We all need the assistance from others from time to time to get us there. It has been said that no man is an island.
I don't like the idea of socialized medicine but when the private companies cannot give everyone affordable quality healthcare it has to come from somewhere. If that means all or some has to come from the government to ensure that when I get very old won't have to make a decision whether to eat or buy vitally needed medication. It is a quality of life issue.

Wow, I'm happy to see the number of people here who get that things like healthcare, education, etc. are not things people are entitled to - they are things you should pay for on your own. People need to see that if we have universal healthcare, there will be 2 problems: the government bureacracy that's set up will become inefficient (just like all bureacracies - look at the post office, dmv, etc.), and people will no longer be motivated to take care of their health on their own because big brother will foot the bill for all the medical expenses incurred by their poor health choices.

Hello, "cato". I assume you are making reference to Cato's Letters?
To answer your question:
NO I would NEVER give up my inalienable rights. I would never give up freedom for safety. Give me the freedom to make my own choices and I will defend my freedom, make my choices and take my licks.
I would never accept an inferior healthcare product. I am willing to pay for good healthcare and I don't expect a free ride from anyone.
I am responsible for my own success. I should be allowed to enjoy my successes and I am more than willing to take responsibility for my failures.

We the people are responsible for our well-being & success in life at least this was what the Founders had envisioned. This cancer called "Cradle-to-the Grave" care from the government is a real pipe-dream. America needs citizens who will stand on their own feet AND stand together for the good of the country especially during times like these.

I am responsible for my health, wealth, and happiness in my life, no one else. No I will not pay for inferior health care and I suspect no one else would that is used to the care we currently receive.
Even the folks in Russia are a little upset with Putin and his movement to drag them back into the central government scenario.

Communism is so yesterday. It`s not like it was before,
communist vs capitalist .
it`s normal people vs global capitalists.
no-one is giving up individual rights. It`s capitalists that are trying to take it, if some way.
No-one who`s against the capital global elite that hurts common people`s own everydaylife, is alonging for society system where one had to give up normal rights, normal salaries, normal small busines society.
The people who claims so, are just riding on a "known horse from the 2. war" it`s so easy to just use one worldwide known word (stalinism or communism) to justify global elite`s doings.
elect person like Mc cain, and you`ll have counter reactions after a decade in your country that will be as an outcome of the republicans doings, and people remember republicans as negatively as you remember word communism now, spite of the minor fact that you`ve not even seen one surround you.

originally communism was a pretty good idea. But, as with everything people want power. So it became onesided. The people became basically slaves.
So as for who is responsible for ensuring my success, MYSELF and only myself ultimately.

Your question is very convoluted but it seems like you are asserting that America will have a Communist Government and it's citizens will give up their inalienable rights if we move to socialized medicine.
With that logic, don't you think we already are Communist and have already lost our rights because we have socialized fire departments, police, military, and education?
