It is very difficult to tell. British and American are both people who are multi-cultural and each culture brings their own degree of friendliness. We are mongrel nations with ancestors throughout Europe/Asia/India/Africa - so there is no easy answer. When I visit in the USA I find family and friends of family are friendlier but when my friends from the USA arrive here they find the people here to be friendlier than strangers at home. I think if you are the friendly type you will find friends wherever you go!!!

No, Americans are superficial and fake for the most part.

They are always asking "Hi. How are you?" when they really don't care.
