Carbonated water, also known as soda water, is plain water into which carbon dioxide gas has been dissolved. The process of dissolving carbon dioxide gas is called carbonation. It results in the formation of carbonic acid (which has the chemical formula H2CO3). Basically speaking, it's a weak acid formed when carbon dioxide dissolves in water.
Now, think about the chemicals used in swimming pool maintenance; dry acid, hydrochloric acid, and carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide when bubbled into water, dissolves readily and produces Carbonic Acid.
The key is water, if water is present, it will greatly
accelerate the decomposition of carbonic acid. Since water is also a product of the decomposition, even miniscule traces of water will rapidly destroy carbonic acid. Like when you leave out a glass of soda water and it becomes flat.
So in answer to your question you could swim in carbonated water if it stayed carbonated enough to swim in but it wouldn't. The bubbly feeling would soon disappear. I also do not believe that it would be fatal to swim in.

it wouldnt be fatal to swim in it.
but i think you would be very sticky after getting out.
and it may burn a little bit (perhaps alot) due to the acids that are in carbonated water.
