I like to believe that I do give benefit of the doubt though usually if I hear a lot of people say things about someone, my curiosity is aroused and I want to prove it to myself if it is true or not that I oftentimes go to lengths just doing that.

I see for myself unless it is a certain thing they said, or situation, example..
If a person says they smell really bad, i would find out for myself because that does not endanger me
but if a person says they are a murderer, i wouldn't take that chance, as it could be true.
You say to yourself "well it could be true that they smell bad too?" yes i know, but i will not be hurt by them smelling bad, so i can take the chance, as i will still be here in the morning and not 6 feet under.

The opinions of other can carry some value, but I have to consider the source and I will not repeat what heard. For example, my wife's opinion of someone she has dealt with personally will carry great weight with me. I will make my own judgments based on my own interactions with the person, although I may be cautious if warned by people I trust and respect.

I stay far away from here-say and let my own interactions with a person determine if I trust them or not. I've seen the rumor mill hurt too many people.

You confused me. All you had to say is "do you tend to give people the benefit of the doubt" and then we would have been cool.

Sometimes, I tend to be too trusting, but I should wait until I know a person to judge them and also not go on what they say.

I do but others don't and pre-judge without the facts. Others build up a witch trial based on evidence that is rhetorical and non-admissable in court. That is how they slander people here
