You do not have a timing belt on the Buick V6 engine in your Pontiac. It's a timing chain and sprockets. The water pump has to come off and the timing cover is directly behind the water pump. behind the timing cover the large sprocket is on the camshaft and the smaller one in the crankshaft.

Timing Belt Installation
Notice: Do not bend, kink, or pry on the camshaft timing belt as damage may occur.
Install the camshaft timing belt by routing it around the sprockets and idlers. Start at the intermediate camshaft sprocket and work counterclockwise when looking at the front of the engine.
Make sure to accumulate slack in the timing belt as you work the belt around the sprockets.
