Are you kidding, I will not hesitate to open a door for another guy or give him my seat. If he is cute I may ask him to sit in my lap ;)

Believe me, some of us still are. I was raised to always be courteous. That said, in today's society, far too many people seem self absorbed and have no time for niceties anymore. A shame really.
Oh yes, and I must say this to Robby. My dear, with all due respect, being a gentlemen is not a political point of view nor is it the sole dominion of conservatives. Please do not cheapen a rather honest and serious question with such prattle.

I don't think wanting the right to vote has anything to do with how you treat another human being. Saying that 'women's lib' made men mean/rude is like saying Christ made Eric Rudolph bomb gay bars. There is no excuse for that sort of behavior. I am certainly not rude to men (and actually have held the door open for many men in my lifetime), so there is no reason for them to be rude or disrespectful to me.

ETA: Equality just means treating me the same you would treat anyone else. If you are rude to each other like that, then fine. I have never been rude to another female in the RW, have never been rude that way to a man in the RW. Why would someone let a door close in my face when I wouldn't do that to them? That is just RUDE behavior. I think parents should be taken to task for not teaching their children to be civilised. I deserve equal pay for equal work, as do men. I deserve to have a door held for me rather than slammed in my face - as do men. That is true equality. I can hardly wait until we get there.

Ummm .. you're living in the wrong country ?
Up here in Canada, there are tons of men being gentlemen. Canada is a 'friendly and caring country'. The Americas are too stressed, always fighting in some other country rather than taking care of business at home - tsk tsk tsk Mr Bush!
Oh well, maybe that's where your gentlemen went - to Iraq or Afghanistan or somewhere the government has chosen to ship them off to?
How sad !

I, personally, consider myself a gentleman. I open doors, pay the bill, etc. that most men don't do anymore (and for being 18, that's got to say something; I think the younger generation will "revert" back to the old ways).

As I hold the door open for female colleagues I, more often than not, get thanked and told I'm one of a dying breed.
So there's your answer: gentlemen are a dying breed.

I don't think it was women's lib that changed things, just the formality of society fading. We're not so formal anymore, sadly, so a lot of old customs are dying out. But how can they survive? With music being the way it is, and movies, men are shown poor examples of what they ought to be....

as a society, we realized how patronizing and pointless most "gentlemen" actions are. it's not feminism's fault for exposing stupid traditions as baseless, it's your fault for creating them in the first place. men and women still get along, they still fall in love, they're still happy. now we are free to find a woman to treat as an equal, or find a woman to take care of, whichever we prefer. same for women, they can be with any type of man they want. i call this FREEDOM.

it stopped in the 60's and 70's when women started slapping men in the face for opening doors for them and thinking of men as disposable money machines.

It went out the door when feminism came in. Girls act like boys in this country. Great loss for both sexes.
