This was one of the hardest questions for me to research for Yahoo! Answers. I was not able to find seperate suicide statistics seperating the data for f-m or m-f (atleast I didn't see it - you have lots of reading ahead. These are two excerpts I have found so far (the links are below in the source list):

From the The Psychology Wiki:

"Transsexualism: Prevalence

There are no reliable statistics on the prevalence of transsexualism. According to the DSM-IV, statistics from smaller European countries have suggested that roughly 1 in 30,000 physical males and 1 in 100,000 physical females seek sex reassignment surgery. However, it is commonly suggested that many transsexual people do not seek SRS and therefore are not reflected in the statistics. The DSM itself states that no recent epidemiological studies on transsexualism are available. Lynn Conway has suggested that transsexualism is much more prevalent, that 1 in 2500 physical males in the United States has undergone SRS since the 1960s, and that perhaps 1 in 500 individuals experiences gender dysphoria."

From Susans.org, a Transgender Resource site:

Suicide Rate:

"The need for physical treatment is emphasized by the high rate of mental health problems, including depression, various addictions, and a suicide rate among untreated transsexual people many times the rate in the general population (some estimates are as high as between thirty and seventy percent); many of these problems in the majority of cases disappear or decrease significantly after a change of gender role."

***NOTE***

Siren's links are good but please compare the 20% in her comments (drawn from her 2nd link) with the 40% in her 1st link in the source list. That's a big difference!!

Its a model to demonstrate the neccessity for treatment and to stop the high gate keeping for treatment for diagnosed gender dysphoric people.
I can understand that for untreated TS's suicide is a better option than to live as the wrong gender, especialy when the gate keepers are asking the price of a fully loaded sedan to make them whole and complete as a person. To a person that is below poverty line, telling them this high price is like telling them to commit suicide, so they do, as all hope is lost.
Until the attitude changes and the remedy is made more affordable the scale of these suicides will rise proportionately to the the number of the "hopeless" individuals that are in the 1 in 500 that are found to be genuine GID as that proportion rises with the total number of society.

The need for treatment is emphasized by the high rate of mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and various addictions, as well as a higher suicide rate among untreated transsexual people than in the general population.

Suicide rates are significantly lower in treated transgender patients than in non-treated. Untreated transsexual patients have suicide rates as high as 20% while treated transmen have suicide rates of less than 1%. Interestingly, while in the general population, cisgender females attempt suicide more than twice as frequently as cisgender males, studies of transsexual patients show a higher number of suicide attempts in transgender females rather than transmen. It appears that in this psychological variable, transsexual women more closely resemble cisgender women and transsexual men more closely resemble cisgender men.
