More important than Iran?
Lets see. Iran is ruled by a nutty anti semetic fundamentalist who seems to want to acquire nuclear power. Iraq isn't in great shape due to contant fighting and suicide bombing.
Lebanon is running the risk of being either overtaken by Hizbollah or a civil war (or both). Other countries also have their own problems.
Yet, the King says that Israel is MORE important? For whatever reason? Could it be that it serves as a distraction from other issues going on?
And for the record, lots of Muslim countries talk the talk about the "Palestinian people or cause" but they do very little about it.
And now that Hamas is in charge of the Palestinain Arabs it is virtually impossible to make peace in that current state. Yet he thinks Israel should be "pushed" towards making concessions to an organization bent on desptorying it.

The problem with the Israel/Palestine conflict is that nothing there is natural. Usually the way things work is that ethnic groups have territory. In a more advanced civilization (with agriculture, specialization, and urbanization) these territories become countries. The Middle East never had this chance. They were conquered by the Ottoman Empire, then, at the end of WWI, England and France sat down with a map of the Middle East, drew some lines, and said, "Okay everybody, these are countries now." and ignored the ethnic groups living within these countries. Then the world inserted Israel. The ethnic group (the Jewish people) is a longtime enemy of most of the other ethnic groups living there. Thus this is an artificial tension created by the world community and is unlikely to change anytime soon.

There is a long tradition of religious tolerance within the region. Most of the time until 1948, when the state of Israel was established, personal relations between the people of different faiths were completely open and without predjudice.
It's not a conflict that's gone on for thousands of years.
It is a political problem that can be solved politically. And although it is a very tragic situation, blame on either side will only escalate the problem.
To know more about what is being done to help solve the conflict, here is a link www.mendonline.org

Perhaps King Abdullah hasn't noticed that we have hosted countless meetings between Israeli authorities and Arafat (when he was still alive). It has always been in the interest of America to have a peaceful solution to the Israeli/Palestinian question.
Unfortunately, not everyone in the region feels this way. People who are willing to strap bombs to themselves and walk into restaurants are not looking for a compromise solution.
As far as Putin is concerned, the Russians have enough of their own problems. Besides, what sort of leverage do the Russians have with either the Israelis or Palestinians?

When one side is eliminated. Israel has repeatedly come to the table with Palestinian leaders who only use the peace process as a way of buying time to marshal their forces. Every ceasefire called between the two ends as a result of yet another Palestinian terrorist bombing. Palestinians don't want peace, they want dead Israelis.
