I recently heard that the hard plastic bottles such as Avent, Dr. Brown's, and Platex leak some kind of toxic chemical that can cause problems. What's the real deal here? My friend HIGHLY recommends Dr. Browns and Platex VentAire and I was going to use them for my baby that's due in May, but now I'm not so sure.

The chemical, Biphenol A (SP?) is found in all polycarbonate/plastic containers, and we all intake a little each day, but it's usually way less than the acceptable amount. You can buy bottles that don't contain this chemical. They are usually offered through websights that are enviornmentally friendly. I did the research and wasn't concerned, and continued using Avent.

I have three kids who used Gerber, Playtex, Dr. brown and avent. They all turned out just fine, I turned out fine, and so did the other millions of americans who used them. As long as your baby isn't eating the bottle then they will be a-okay. Just be sure to sterilize them before the first use and after each use.

Medelas dont have that chemical.

Also read a book called Raise a Smarter Child by Kindergarten by a Dr. Perlmutter. It talks about the toxins in plastic and how a lot of toy companies use them (babies put stuff in their mouths)

the level is not enough to be concerned about. My daughter uses Avent and Playtex Ventaire bottles, and it seems to be going great.
