Republicans are right-winged and Democrat are left-winged. Haven't you ever heard on TV the left and the right. Con, sit on the right , Dems sit on the left. Watch at the next State of Union if you can stomach it, Dems on the left and Cons on the right side of the room. Better than that if you that means when you see someone sitting on their hands that is the Democrats and on the ones just clapping., clapping and waving are the Republicans

It changes over time. At the moment:
Right-wing = Conservative, meaning mostly social conservatism (read: religious issues such as anti-abortion, -gay marriage, and -stem cell research). Also, right wing is typically for less governmental control, especially over big businesses. This is why most big corporations give money to the Republican Party. The party used to stand for fiscal conservatism as well, but that is a far cry from today's Republican party.
Left-wing = Liberal... which is a word with no meaning, really. I think it stems from the penchant to be liberal with money to poorer folks. Left-wing means you stand for the middle-class, especially workers (read: Unions, unions, unions). They also typically go for gay rights, pro-choice, etc.

Right wing: You believe in small governemnt, low taxes, and individual freedom.
Left wing:A left-wing extremist exhibits many, but not necessarily all, of the following attributes:
--believes the United States is a fundamentally negative force in the world.
--believes that American imperialism is the primary cause of Islamic radicalism.
--believes that the decision to go to war in Iraq was not an individual case of monumental stupidity, but a consequence of America’s fundamental imperialistic nature.
--tends to blame America for the failures of others—i.e. the failure of our NATO allies to fulfill their responsibilities in Afghanistan.
--doesn’t believe that capitalism, carefully regulated and progressively taxed, is the best liberal idea in human history.
--believes American society is fundamentally unfair (as opposed to having unfair aspects that need improvement).
--believes that eternal problems like crime and poverty are the primarily the fault of society.
--believes that America isn’t really a democracy.
--believes that corporations are fundamentally evil.
--believes in a corporate conspiracy that controls the world.
--is intolerant of good ideas when they come from conservative sources.
--dismissively mocks people of faith, especially those who are opposed to abortion and gay marriage.
--regularly uses harsh, vulgar, intolerant language to attack moderates or conservatives.
--believes that abortion is OK, but capital punishment isn't
