Basically they are in their own little worlds, they only pay attention to their immediate surroundings because they are too busy making money.

There is a far greater possibility of success in teaching an Orang-Utan the finer attributes of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, or the intrinsic esoteric beauty to be found in the Mona Lisa, than teaching the average American (those who do not live on either coastline), world politics as not spoon fed them by Fox, CNN CBS et al.
I have visited many countries, and by far the most insular and blinkered when discussing world politics, is the politically uneducated American.

Ps To the Americans who referred to Gato Veloz, inability to spell; the seven shades which make up a rainbow are spelled Colours, NOT colors; a venue where a play is staged is spelled theatre, NOT theater. Did it not occur to you that perhaps in his country; Iraq IS spelled Irak? Or then he may be a redneck American who pronounces Iraq as I-RAK, rather than Ee-rak

Should Elane c & webbrew have such a fabulous grasp of spelling and grammar, perhaps they could try rearranging the following; black a calling pot the kettle.

I am not sure where Irak is on the map - does that make me uneducated? I do know where Iraq is - am I educated now? You can not judge America by the answers & question on Y/A - that would make you seriously uneducated - read some of the posts, this is more of a form of entertainment.

Pretty much and they don't care to get educated, either. It's not the most interesting thing in the world much like you may know where it is on the map but you didn't notice that on the map and in the dictionary, IraQ is spelled with a "Q" not a "K."

i could not say it any further useful than what Quagmire already did. i think of there's no harm in poking a splash good-natured relaxing at any ethnic group, yet then there should not be some the place something is going with out any limits, together as others are the two off-limits or dealt with with youngster-gloves. there is harm in caricatures if it particularly is all it particularly is ever portrayed. like it or not, it does shade some human beings's perceptions.

First off its Iraq and most of the people I know, know where to locate it...yes the media does try to persuade, definately the left wing propaganda but those with common sense can take in the facts and make their own opinion on a subject.

Yes, most Americans could use more education in politics.

I'm not sure how to solve the problem.

There are at least four things that we need:

1. people need to be open to opposing viewpoints and

2 people have to have a functioning moral compass so they can separate right from wrong

3. people need to use reason and logic to sort out good ideas from bad ones.

and

4. people need to have courage to vote in a way that is supported by morality and reason -- even if others around them don't get it yet.

Good luck to you

Yes most of us don't even watch the news or read a newspaper. Seems many americans are more interested about which celebrity is going to rehab. Very sad.

detoth is right...the i'news' our media peddles is more about selling you products than providing any sort of useful information. The American public is dangerously ignorant of the rest of the world and how it works in general. The average person in the 3rd world is more politically astute than the average American.

The average American is watching s-tupid-freakky shows on TV instead reading a good book.
